I was fascinated with the Speedmaster when seeing Jim Lovell's Apollo 8 worn watch on display at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago when I was 10. It was a main inspiration to get a Speedmaster and my story was on Fratello.

I went back to the museum today, and happy to report that it still on display. I took some pictures with my phone that aren't the best. It's behind plexiglass, in a plastic bag, and there are all sorts of lights shining down on it.

It’s really not displayed as it should be! Half the watch is covered by the plastic bag, and to make matters worse, it's unceremoniously displayed in the same case as the “Defecation collection kit” 🙁

I wish it could be in a case by itself, and displayed to see the entire watch. But good to know it's still there and fun to see it again today, 45 years later. And this time with my own Speedmaster on my wrist.

I guess they're not allowed to remove it from that bag. Really makes for an unappealing display of what could otherwise be really cool. I mean it's cool to see it anyway, but you know what I mean.

Glad to see the museum open. My son loved this place to the point where we became members for a few years. The historical value of the watch, I guess, includes that pouch. Otherwise it’s just another speedie.

Glad to see I am not the only one who sees the utility of a chrono at dump time.

Sorry to see the way the watch is bagged up; you can see one on display at Air & Space Museum in DC.

Happy to see a true Apollo museum piece, and happy to see a Speedmaster on your wrist. The Speedmaster really is one of the finest watches you could own. Little wonder why this watch is a part of so many collections.

I used to go to that museum all the time as a kid living just outside of Chicago.

And the same amount of information on the yellow cards as the toilet-kit 🤦

You should send that picture to the OMEGA heritage-center 😁

I would personally be far more concerned that the poop bag made it into my equipment kit than my watch.

The Stafford Air and Space Museum in Weatherford, doesn't do a great job of showing off his Speedmaster either. It's almost like the watch isn't the most important thing to them.😁
