Unfortunately, the little Tissot sign (with serial number) on the rotor of the movement isn’t there anymore so apart from the reference number on the inside of the caseback, I have no clue how old this watch is. The 1975 Ad you refer to, do you have a picture for me? As well as a photo of the 1976/1977 catalog? Would be much appreciated 😀.

Like LE MANS race is in June, Ad may be from late 1974 or 1975.

will take more time for the catalog.

My Tissot calibre 784-2, 21-jewels, PR 516, automatic, patent regulator, circa mid 1960s, original stainless steel Tissot bracelet, stainless steel case. Acquired with a pristine white dial, but I had a stray gun metal dial that I prefer. So as part of total service, I transplanted the dial I prefer. I acquired it through an estate sale via an agent, so don’t know the past history. But it looks to me as though someone wore it until it quit, and didn’t bother checking in to having it serviced. It had never been worked on until I serviced it!

Just finished this one this week:

While I'm not really a fan of the case style and the integrated bracelet, I do love the dial. Côtes de Genève coated in a translucent blue lacquer - very nice:

Regarding parts for vintage Tissot, Swatch group is really no help with these older Tissot watches. Even though this is from just the 70's, they describe it as "ancient" when I asked them about parts for the movement and the case, so they had nothing available. This is similar to Longines - no vintage parts at all.

Fortunately between some donor movements that used some common parts, a local supplier who had vintage parts in stock, and using some parts from an Omega caliber that has some of the same parts, it appears to be running well. Temporary crown on it right now as I try to find a vintage one that is marked Tissot...

Cheers, Al

I think it was around 1976 that Tissot tried a different kind of dial effect such as the above navigator with day and this 516.
But I'm still preferring the blue sunburst

Not that I take it with any sort of accuracy (family stories are often distorted over the years), but the owner says he was given this in 1974. So certainly in the area of the time frame you suggest.
