I forgot I had this old leather rally strap - will work a treat until I can track down bracelet links.

I was going to bid on this one myself but Christmas took too big a bite
That's a terrible redial. Glad you stayed away.👍

I was wondering about how fresh the dial looked compared to the case.
What other obvious signs should I look for to spot a refurbed or replacement dial?

Does the signature on the movement and case back look Kosher?

Spotting redials on vintage watches takes patience and study to learn the telltales. There are no shortcuts. As a rough rule of thumb, you should always be wary of clean, fresh dials on watches that are 60+ years old. Also, dials that feature black printing on a clean, white background should be carefully reviewed if not avoided altogether. Then, you would need to know that the watch you were looking at was made during an era when the dial should have sported a cursive logo that is similar to the logo on the inside caseback. See a few examples in this thread: https://omegaforums.net/threads/do-you-like-tissot-many-pics.58233/

Fortunately, this forum is filled with pages upon pages of threads about redials and how to spot them. A good place to start is with the stickies at the top of each forum, like this one: https://omegaforums.net/threads/learn-how-to-fish.52603/

With a bit of reading, you'll soon be able to analyze dials like a detective.

I just came across this enamel dial vintage Tissot with pulsometer scale on Instagram today. It is just stunning.

...and eyewateringly expensive! 😲

Yeah unfortunately.
Makes the 2015 Longines Pulsometer look like a real bargain.

Picked this one up a while back, it needed a bit of tlc but after a service, a new crystal and a new strap, I think it's come up pretty nice

Looking through this thread, it makes me wonder if some of my old hands might be from Tissot. They came from an ex-Omega employees estate but seem to be discounted from being Omega from my old thread (although I must find time to measure up the orange sweep hand and see if it's an Ultraman one).

Possible Tissot hands amongst these ?

Possibly. The candlestick hands and squared-off hands were seen on 60-70s Tissot.
The thin white hands like those in #5-8 look similar to this example from the 40s:

Does this old beater look correct?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Stainless-Steel-Tissot-Automatic-Gents-Wrist-Watch/272980579780?_trkparms=aid=222007&algo=SIM.MBE&ao=2&asc=49565&meid=6a2264914f8b42c387d9ca02f1498661&pid=100005&rk=6&rkt=6&sd=263373543674&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

looks like it would clean up.
Probably not a top of the line model but not bad looking.

PS

I'm not bidding on this one, though it might be a good one.
If anyone is interested in it go right ahead and if you get it let us know more about it.

I'll be holding off any such purchases till I've learned more about these.

What the heck - I thought *this* was a PR516 GL ? They both say the same on the dial.

Anyone know of any resource online about these ‘70s Tissots?

I am not a Tissot expert, but if you look at the PR516 line, it was very broad in the 70's. Styles included diver, sport, navigator, alarm & dress watches to name a few. Include chronograph versions as well. The GL versions (Grand Luxe) only seems to be a bit more "dressed" than the standard PR516's. Adding the day along with the date for example. There was not one specific model that was a PR516 GL, but many sharing the designation during the same period.
