barramu, what do you think about the bracelet? Do you think it’s original to the watch or something that was added later?

Bracelet looks a classic omega bor 1036/11 to me, added later and at least 10 years older.
Correct bracelet for this reference is 1037/614.

$520 including the bracelet is a no-brainer. 36mm Omega with a great automatic movement from their golden age?

^ This! Good find.

If you can afford to, keep the bracelet and find a more contemporary head for that when you can. "Your" 166.067 demands something that says "Yo, 1970 has arrived". Mine is on an 1168 with 605 links, and looks great - might possibly have come from its little shop in Zurich like that. But I think a strap in an adventurous shade would also be in keeping with its vibe.

I think you should shop around unless you're in Japan for a short duration, what's the story there? I'm curious, there's also a thread here about a member exploring watch shops in Japan, it was a beautiful journey

I think it was this: https://omegaforums.net/threads/my-travels-to-japan-and-my-search-for-nina.54166/
I live in Japan, but in Osaka, not Tokyo. If you are a watch person, Japan is heaven. They definitely are a watch culture. I’ve never seen anything like it anywhere else in the world that I’ve lived or visited. The person you referenced went to the “Walmart” of watches in Tokyo. Everything under one roof. I prefer looking around some of the more random shops I find just wondering around. For instance the Seamaster discussed above was in a small shop in Kagoshima where I’m visiting my in-laws for new years. I just went for a walk and stumbled across it. Usually, as opposed to being on the lookout for a “grail” watch, I prefer to look around and find things that interest me then ask questions and do the research and learn. Before yesterday I knew virtually nothing about vintage Seamasters. Although, I still know very little, I did learn a bit and for me that’s where the fun is.

Can anyone confirm the lug width on the 166.067 case?

18mm.

Anyway, this thread inspired me and decided to start the new year wearing mine: best wishes to all! 😀

Hey, why not? Happy new year!

(I have re-set it now to 1st of the month, but this is a better photo.)

So I’ve been trying to go over everything about this particular watch before I go back to possibly buy it tomorrow and one thing keeps bothering me. As I understand it the 11 end links, though not correct to the case, should fit but there is a noticeable gap between the end links and lugs. Upon closer examination of the pics I noticed what looked to me like misshapen lugs. Am I crazy or do they look misshapen? The right side lug looks like it’s been messed with and doesn’t look right to me. It could just be the picture I’m not sure. Let me know what you think.

At this point, as you are able to handle the watch in person, I’d do my final due diligence with the watch in hand, rather than pouring over photos where the angle/light etc may cloud the details.

Yeah, I can go back to the store and handle it again tomorrow. Just wanted to get all of the advice that I could before going.

I can’t see anything wrong with the lug from that picture. Just looks like the end link is sat at a slight angle.

So I bought the watch today. Turns out that the bracelet is in fact a 1036 bracelet with 11 end links of course. The crystal IS an Omega crystal, and I’m positive the movement is a cal. 565(the date wheel advances when I pull the crown). Everything seems to check out and I think the watch looks great! Next step is to have it serviced and maybe the crystal replaced. Thanks to everyone for helping me make an informed decision. I really appreciate the help and advice you provided. BTW, I’m looking to sell the bracelet or trade it for a 1037/614 if anyone is interested.

One last update. I got home tonight and opened the case back and it is indeed, 100% a cal. 565.
