Vintage Seamaster Experts Needed

Could someone help me identify this vintage Seamaster I saw today? Could it be a ref.166.067 or similar with a older ref bracelet? The bracelet seemed to be a genuine Omega bracelet, but I don’t think it belongs with that case. At the shop it was only “labelled 60’s-70’s antique. My concern is that it could be a “frankenwatch”. I’m not concerned about the bracelet as it would be removed, replaced and sold. Also, if it is a genuine seamaster is the $520usd asking price a good deal? Any help would be appreciated!

Yes it’s genuine. The dial Appears original from those photos. You’re correct er the bracelet is older than the watch head.

Do you think the $520 asking price is a good price for one of these?

The bracelet is worth almost half of the asking price… that case however… it looks so polished that I don’t even know if it is omega. I don’t like the watch but I’m far from being an expert

I find these smooth cases somewhat odd and personally I’m not a fan so I wouldn’t pay $520 for it.

From a general value perspective the bracelet is worth $200-250 with the 11 end links. So it’s not a bad price from that’s perspective.

The case isn’t over polished btw. That’s how these cases were designed.

Davidt, Thanks for your help. Do you have an idea as to the ref number for it?

Im far from an expert on these but I think you’re probably right with the 166.067

If you like the watch, it's definitely a good price. As David mentioned, this particular case has an unusual rounded look that isn't for everyone.

I do like it. If I could sell the bracelet for for $200-$250. I’d only be into it for $320-$270. My next concern would be the cost to service it. It might cost more that what I have in the watch.

Well that price might be slightly ambitious for the bracelet, but I guess $200 isn’t impossible. You need to get a better look at it and don’t forget sellers fees and shipping. Of course then you will need to buy the correct bracelet so I don’t think there’s really any savings there. It’s a bracelet watch IMO. The cost of servicing is significant, but that’s true for any vintage watch.

In my opinion this is a good watch for the asking price at a dealers. Buy it service it and leave the bracelet on it and you have 5-7 years of joy. 👍

( or in reality 2 years until you find you have 7 other watches ) 😗

Thanks for your help! I will agree regarding it being a bracelet watch but I don’t think it would look bad at all on a leather strap, which was my plan if I do buy it. I could live with it being on a strap and at the same time keeping an eye out for the correct bracelet. Btw. what would be your opinion on the ref number be?

STANDY, To be honest I didn’t like the bracelet at all. I don’t think it looked very good with that particular case. I think if I could find a leather strap to complement the case it would look better.

The picture looks like a Japanese store, do you buy directly from a Japanese store?
US$520 does not include consumption tax.
If you buy in a store, you will be charged sales tax.
You can see the JPY65780 price including tax under the picture of the watch.
If you are visiting Japan during your trip, you don't need to pay sales tax if the store is tax free.

If the store is open tomorrow I’ll have another look at it. Hopefully I can get them to open up the case back so I can get a good look at the movement. If the movement looks ok, I think I’ll pick it up.

166.067 reference has lugs like this from factory, that's not overpolishing.
This specimen looks fine to me, nice dial, fairly priced.
Inside there is a nice 565, at that price I'd definitely go for it.

barramu, what do you think about the bracelet? Do you think it’s original to the watch or something that was added later?

It's interesting that the #11 end-links leave such a gap between the lugs. In principle they should fit better. Perhaps they were modified.
