I haven't looked into those rules recently, but I imagine it would be ok for you to run an auction.
Thank you for your insight!
I will confirm now if there’s a distinction between “auction” and “selling”-
Thanks for pointing this out!

In a private sale on eBay, from an unknown seller with no service history I’d say this would sell for around £/€/$400, plus or minus 50 depending on the the quality of the photos and condition

How about if the seller had significant history?
I’m trying to reactivate my old eBay account that has a very high rating… But I lost access to my old email.

I mean watch history. If it’s a known seller or someone selling lots of vintage watches, buyers may have more confidence in their listing. If someone has 3000 feedback from selling kettles and t shirts it will make no difference.

OK, I understand
Could a watchmaker do an inspection on it, thereby increasing confidence and value?
Possibly you might have some other ideas on how to maximize the sales price?
Thank you!

A watchmaker will tell you if there are any obvious issues but won’t be able to give it a clean bill of health without a full strip down and service. A cost which at best you’ll just about recoup when it comes to selling or more likely you’ll gain less than you’ve spent.

I’d just list it on eBay in an auction perhaps in November. That’s the best balance between effor and return.

The best thing you can do is take good wel lit photos so buyers have confidence in the dial and case condition. That’s isn’t possible with the ones you’ve taken this far.

Can you just show me one in the last 3 years that was sold for 400 Euro?

Are you saying you think 400 is low? With poor pictures and from private sellers 60’s Seamaster automatic such as reference 165.002, 165.020 and 165.010 finish around 400 frequently.

Yes I think 400 is low - Your picture shows a date 166010 wich is 10 times more available as the no date version.

What would your estimated range of value be?

I think it’s about right. Date or no date, I value these 166.010/165.010’s the same as other references I mentioned above but I’m aware the market may value them slightly higher. Nevertheless I stand by 400. Although rarer, a no date doesn’t command any more value IMO.

Rather than telling me I’m wrong. Why don’t you venture your opinion.

Because of the poor quality of your pictures I would not bid.

Since I wear four or five different watches a week I don't want to set the date every time. So I am not interested in date watches.

I think your estimate is pretty reasonable, although it would probably bring a bit more with excellent photos if it is in great condition. The most recent 165.010 I purchased at auction was about $600 USD IIRC, but that included a nice long BoR bracelet. I like it, but it does have some spots on the dial. The 166.010 in the photo was significantly more, but I think that was because of the chronometer-rated movement,

The most recent 165.010 (no-date) I purchased at auction was about $575 USD IIRC, but that included a nice long BoR bracelet. So I think that your estimate isn't far off.

Yeah, the value of a BoR is never really recouped when sold attached to a watch.
