Vintage Omega seamaster deville

Hi everyone, I’m looking to snag my first vintage omega and am pretty set on an automatic seamaster deville with the date window. However, I was wondering if there were any 36 or 38mm models? If not, what would be the next closest thing? Thanks in advance!

Hi @jochen and welcome.

The Deville’s only came in the 34.5mm size (although there was a smaller midsize at around 32mm if I recall). That being said, they are all dial with very slim bezel and small lugs so tend to “wear” larger than their specs imply.
A 34mm Seamaster next to a 34mm Oyster for comparison

Watches above 36mm were a rarity, other than tool watches, prior to the early 70’s. I regard to size, you do really get used to the smaller proportions of the vintage pieces and it can be liberating as they don’t weigh your arm down like an anchor.

While I've never really taken that much of a liking to this specific case-type I have had a few (and actually have a solid gold right now) over the years.
I would have to concur with @JwRosenthal. With the slim bezel and, in comparison, large dial it really feels bigger than its numbers suggest.

There were some jumbo Seamaster and Geneve models, but I can't recall any SMDV references that are particularly large.

Listen to @JwRosenthal, vintage size is great! It feels like you aren't wearing a watch at all. Be confident and rock 34mm!

Different, more modern style than the DeVille, but if you want an oversized, 36+mm vintage Seamaster the 166.032 references are excellent, have great movements and wear very well for those who like more modern sizes.

My Seamaster Cosmic 2000 is 38mm and wears really well, but I accept that we are getting out of the smarter De Ville territory and into sportier, pre-Aqua Terra vibes:
