Ask yourself why a watch that's otherwise so nice looking would have such a nasty looking movement...
And the serial number dates to 1966, which is a little late for this reference. If I were the OP, I’d be trying to get my money back.

I thought that was in very good condition but I certainly am no expert on these watches.
This is the comment that everyone hates, but still going to make it for if other people read this thread- i would never buy an SM120 or SM300 without having a very good understanding of the potential flaws. It's a minefield indeed.

I see a lot of 300s fakes also on Ch24 😒
Omegaforums is the right place to buy this kind of watches.
All the community can help to do the right choice.

Peter you've been here long enough to know that the SM300 is the single most faked and messed about Omega model there is. I can't understand why you would stick your neck out and give money for one without either asking for help first or doing a ton of research, research which would have helped you steer clear. I avoid these as a matter of course since there is something hooky about nearly every one. Black dial Omegas of every kind up until around 1980 are a bloody minefield. Perhaps you have easy redress, I do hope so.

I know, I know. I should have come here first. I have contacted the seller and we will work something out. Thanks for all your help and assistance. I think I will stay well clear of this minefield in the future. Good luck.

Those 300 and 120's indeed are a minefield. I still dont recognise all the fakes although I've owned a lot of 120's and I currently own a 165.024.

Not sure by what means you purchased the watch (eBay, private seller etc) but as it’s clearly a fake I would stop payment with whatever means you paid. Unless they were a total noob, they knew exactly what they were selling. These fakes haven’t been around long enough for someone to claim it was in grandad’s sock drawer and they didn’t have a clue.

I put my quest for a vintage Seamaster 300 on hold as it was obvious to me I didn't know enough to keep from getting a fake. I'll enjoy my Seamaster 300 Trilogy until I feel a lot more comfortable in searching for a vintage one.

Agreed these SM120 and SM300 are so heavy faked and stocked with ever-changing aftermarket parts, they really require a deep dive any time you are serious about buying. The only other models I am seeing that compare are vintage Tudor Subs, which are also a minefield. In all cases, the movements (or similar movements) are easy to find from much cheaper watches.

Those I’ve seen enough of and read enough here to know when something doesn’t look right. The Tudor subs are scary. Sure you can apply similar logic of lume color/texture, case finishes and details, serifs and fonts- but the subs seem to have run over much longer periods of time with changes every few years whereas omega was pretty consistent and had shorter production runs (the Speedmaster aside).
