The Omega person is wrong.
Your watch is an Omega "Sapphette". This line was introduced in 1954. The watch reference number and movement serial number on the inside of the caseback and on the movement will give you a date of production.

Ladies watches of this size fell out of fashion, but many still wear and enjoy them, yours is a nice example.
