·I was doing this too, ended up with a pretty small 1940s Zenith in 18k gold. The wife loves it, though she also thinks she didn't exactly need it.... She wears it once in a while when she doesn't want to mess around with a phone.
I say go for it! As long as you think she'll at least appreciate the gesture. All the responses here are right on. She might not, and then you're trying to resell a woman's watch, which is difficult, and you've wasted a gifting opportunity. But hey, even if she doesn't enjoy it, you will, right?
