Looks like it is in German. Sam would then be short for samstag meaning saturday. In general I would say that yes it slightly devalues the watch in a country with a different language. It is hard to say something about price from one picture, but it looks a bit rough. However, if the price is right (as in maybe 200 euros, depending on how the movement looks), this is exactly the type og watch I could see myself pick up. How much is the seller asking (if its not yours to sell)?

SAM could be:

French - SAM - Samedi, Saturday, Day of the Sabbath,
or
German - SAM - Saturday - Saturn Day

Country you're in doesn't really matter, you get to understand the names of the days.

Given the stains on the dial and the fact the integrated bracelet is missing, the day being in the wrong language is the last of it s issues.

Agreed. I reckon you dodged a bullet there.
