Vintage Omega - Crown isn’t winding smoothly

Hello all,

I purchased a 1966 vintage Omega Seamaster ref 165.002 a few months ago on Chrono24. I bought it from an authorized dealer who seems reputable and has good reviews. He had told me that it had been serviced relatively recently. I only wore it once or twice and the crown was operating smoothly. However, I recently tried turning the crown and it’s not smooth and it’s as if I’m meeting resistance on the first turn… when the watch isn’t even running. I can wind the crown through the resistance but obviously that’s not good practice. The watch runs after manually winding or just wearing it and letting the automatic movement do its thing. But the winding issue is concerning me. Any ideas of what can be causing this and approximately how much it would cost to fix? Thanks in advance.

It will probably be fixed by a full clean/oil/adjust service. Most likely, the seller just made up a story about a recent service, or perhaps he did a dip-and-swish before selling.

Go to a local watchmaker (or post to a recommended one). For a service I’d guess at £120-150 plus parts and postage

What is an authorized Dealer ?

I’m relatively new to watches and buying from chrono 24. But on chrono 24, this is a verified dealer label on certain dealers profiles

Thanks for the clarification. I don’t think it is a term of qualification or authority but merely differentiates between 'a private seller' and a 'dealer'.
