Oh- he wanted it! I have called dibs on a few and had a member ask months later if I wanted it before he listed it for sale, which I thought was very thoughtful. I had already acquired one similar by that point so didn’t need it, but appreciate the offer.
I always think of dibs as a request for right of first refusal- it’s not a contract of any kind, just a “hey, remember me if you ever want to sell”.
Very true

I think you will have to fight @cvalue13 for that unless he finds another one first.

Lol- I was one of the “even a blind squirrel finds a nut” guys back in the early ‘00s who bought a 20 years old (then)16750 when nobody loved them. They weren’t an early 1675, they weren’t the new ones- they were an orphan at the time- a transitional model that was out of fashion and everyone wanted a sub-sub-sub! Like Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!

Not a chance in hell I could afford to buy this watch now.
It’s all about timing and foresight- or just blind luck in my case and I liked the colors.

Love it! What a watch. Dibs lol. I couldn’t afford it now either.
Around 5 maybe 6 years ago, I had just one watch (a quartz seamaster with the rarer silver bezel) that I got for my 21st in 2001. I had always wanted a Rolex so saved up approx £3,500 and went on the hunt for a pre-owned pre ceramic GMT Master II, they were available for that price, I went into a Rolex AD that also sold pre owned and they had some in but also told me about the new Batman which I managed to get after only waiting 3 months for, in hindsight I wish I had bought them both as the pre ceramic GMT II has approximately tripled in price since then. Don’t get me wrong, the Batman hasn’t done too bad either. I do regret not buying the pre ceramic though.

Yup, I remember when the mid 90’s GMT’s broke the $6k range about 5-6 years ago and thought the world had gone insane- I hadn’t seen anything yet!

didnt this all start from time pieces that originally had POCKET WATCH movements modified by watch makers and made more user friendly to be worn on the wrist ????

This 44mm CK2309 occasionally makes an appearance on the forum:

Somewhat new to this, but would that possibly be a “trench watch” made from a larger pocket watch? I have a trench with a 18 SPB movement at 44mm. Also, on the Jumbo’s, Omega Enthusiast points to these being made for the Asian market as well.

These jumbo watches generally date to the mid-to-late 1930s, after the trench watch period. At that time the fashion in men's watches was for small watches with small movements that apparently lacked the long-running accuracy found in contemporary pocket watches with their correspondingly larger balance wheels. There must have been a potential market for wristwatches with improved timing and readability characteristics, as a number of watch manufacturers (Omega, Tissot, IWC, among others) produced large (~44mm) wristwatches based on modified pocket watch movements. The early history of the IWC "Portugieser" model suggests that a wristwatch with "the precision of marine chronometers" was a primary attribute of these large designs.

New in last week is this 37.5mm CK2186 with special galvanic guilloche dial. According to the Extract this one was delivered 17th December 1940 to Germany making it almost 82 years old. I've always admired this reference and I'm very happy to have added this one to my collection.

What a stunner, congrats on this one!

I think many of us would be happy to have that dial in a 32mm case, but to have it in this size case is amazing.
