·On offer is a vintage Glycine Combat 645. These are the cousins of the more famous (and more expensive) Glycine Airman.
It does share several key features with the Airman, most notably the 24-hour dial and Glycine's unique (to my knowledge) hacking feature. When you pull the crown to first position, a tiny wire, thinner than an ant's leg, pops up through a hole in the dial at 12, physically impeding the movement of the sweep second.
Case and dial are in excellent condition. The lume on the dial and hands has a lovely patina. The dial shows almost no signs of ageing, and the lettering is razor-sharp.
The Combat, at 34mm, is a bit smaller than the Airman but the bold dial and relatively narrow bezel give it a nice wrist presence regardless. These were produced in quite limited numbers for only a few years, (primarily 1967-8), and they don't come on the market very often. I've heard that as few as 1000 were released, though I want to stress I cannot confirm that number. They certainly are much rarer than the Airman, though.
The steadily increasing prices of the Airman have made Glycines more collectible overall, and the value of Combats has gone up with the rising tide.
This one was just serviced last month by Christian Danneman at watchguy.co.uk (he took the movement pics), one of the premier watch repairmen in the UK, and it's running along tickety-boo.
I was lucky enough to land a 2nd one recently, so letting this one go to someone else who will appreciate it as I have!
