Vintage DateJust 16013 - Opinions?

Hi All,
I have recently purchased a 1988 Datejust Ref. 16013. I have attached some pictures. I am wondering what people think of this piece, and an approx. value? This has a genuine Rolex strap (I don't like metal straps) but have the jubilee bracelet.

A couple of questions as well:

1.) This piece has an acrylic crystal. I assume this is correct for a 1988 era 16013 (serial R352XXX).

2.) Is it worthwhile getting a sapphire crystal put in, or will this only diminish value?

Cheers,

Tim.

You are right at the transition period of the 16013 from acrylic to sapphire, which was the R-serial.. So either crystal could be right.
If the watch came with an acrylic originally, I would not change to a sapphire. It "could" compromise the water seal of the watch. Can it be done? Yes. Would I do it? No..
Approximate value? Didn't you just buy it? That should give you an idea..

A year or so ago, you could pick these up with bracelets all day long for about this price. There are a couple listed on the Bay for around this price, or best offer, head only. It appears this is about the entry point now, becoming more popular as of recent.
Price is good, this one looks in very good condition.
You did well - Congrats on the purchase!

Actually when you factor in the rolex leather band and condition you did well. Do not swap the crystal, I love the acrylic. Did it have the rolex buckle too?

No Rolex buckle I'm afraid. I have ordered one of these though! 😀

I also own one of these in stainless and gold. I'm also not a fan of the jubilee bracelet that came with it. I'm having a really hard time trying to find a leather strap that really suits it. I tried asking my wife for help as she is good with colour coordination but because she hates the whole watch thing she refuses to help 🙄

It is a very nice watch! Now appears you are upset about something, hopefully not the 200 count post necessary to sell. But this type of reply to a new poster is demeaning, especially when I think its groundless.
Missing metal on the lugs?! Give me a break!

Id assume he's referring to the springbar tool scratches all over the back of the lugs

I think he has another agenda, I would never describe the OP's watch as "in very bad shape".

The scratches really aren't that bad - the lighting makes them more pronounced. Besides, its a vintage piece and this is to be expected - I'd be worried if it was "perfect" considering the age!
