Hey guys, newbie here, came across this constellation listing on ebay asking 1000USD. I find it looks attractive but unsure if everything is original or worth the asking price. Any advice is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Based on the photos provided, it looks legit but the condition is not good. I wouldn't even consider it. The bracelet is totally thrashed, and the base metal is actually starting to show through the gold cap (e.g. at the tip of the 11 o'clock lug), which is not so common. Also, while maybe not directly relevant, over-processed photos like these really put me off.

The watch is legit, dial is quite nice, genuine crystal. The case has been polished. The bracelet shows extensive wear. The movement might need a service.

I wouldn't say the price is totally off, but 1k would be too much for me, personally.

Welcome @lums8733
Take heed of the two members above.

The case has been refinished, the edge facets are too large and the graining too deep.
The movt looks tired and need of a good service.
The lume looks pretty shonky too.
A shame because the linen dial is nice.

even with the bracelet, a $500 watch, to a none collector, not double that.

It skeeves me out that there is significant wear on the rotor but very little on the inside of the caseback

You can do better than this - the C shape Constellations are plentiful.

Another thing to watch out for is the length of the bracelet. I have seen a lot of Constellations with bracelets that were in much nicer condition, but with bracelets too short for many people. I have bought a few from Japan but also had to reject as many for that reason (unless you are prepared to ditch the bracelet and put a leather band on the watch).

You are right thanks! this is from a Japanese seller too, although I am a girl and I do plan to replace the bracelet with a leather strap lol

That's too bad, the linen dial is the biggest reason I want it in the first place...

I had no idea the case was polished! The seller's description says the watch has about 10 seconds difference in keeping time, does that still mean it will need service?

sorry I don't know what a rotor is 🙁

it’s the semi-circular chunk of metal sitting on top of the movement, that’s spins around to wind the watch.
These are prone to becoming off kilter and rubbing against the case back, leaving tell-tale signs of ‘rotor rub’ on the inner case back and evidence on the high points on the rotor itself.
This watch has evidence of rub on the rotor but none on the case back - which is unusual.

If you’re willing to pay $1000 and have a little patience, better examples will surely come to market

When buying a vintage watch with unknown service history you should always consider it might need a service, at least if you're intending to wear the watch.

This watch has evidence of rub on the rotor but none on the case back - which is unusual.

Because exactly of what @Peemacgee said here I stated the watch might need a service.

If I were you, I'd do as @killer67 suggests above and wait for a better example.
