Odd but my 80's Bulova crown also has an invisible ding of some sort that I occasionally feel catching almost scratching my thumb print ridges when setting or winding.
It must be a manufacturing error of some sort. I think any blow hard enough to upset the metal would have left a visible mark.
getting sick of how this damaged crown is scratching me. does any one know the proper replacement crown? thanks!

Long shot but happy to help any devil diver fans out there.
Found a 666ft Accutron Black PVD diver with depth gauge online. No idea on functionality but could be very cheap. Ends less than 24 hours from now, but it’s collection only and needs to be picked up on the Northern side of LA. If anyone is seriously interested and able to pickup then drop me a PM.
Bulova Deep Sea Chronograph 666 " B " Reference Guide / Parts ...
Note: ..... Crystal, Bezel, and Bezel Spring ....
this watch ... MUST ... use Bulova crystal REF# 825AW or correct substitute
for the bezel to be mounted and secured to the watch case a generic diver crystal will not do
The crystal is an armée type and requires the right press and die. Also, the bezel can be damaged if you remove it the wrong way. These have thin wires that either create tension to prevent free-turning, or hold the bezel in place. The wire is easily distorted and not easily fixed.
