    Hello all,

I need some help with a great find I purchased a few months back. I’m trying to track down the exact year of manufacture. The watch in question is an 18k solid Seamaster with the model number on the inside of the back case 14700-2 sc. I’m wearing my 1964 Seamaster 30 today so I can’t take a clearer photo of the serial number of the gold Seamaster but I do have decent photos. Any help is appreciated.

The only way to know the exact year is to order an extract of the archives from Omega.

Thats a very fine example of a 14700. Correct crown, clean dial and a case that retains the distinctive steep lug chamfer of this reference. A watch that has been very well cared for over the years

A 17 million serial number puts it around 1959/60. These came with both alpha ( earlier ) and dauphine ( later ) hands and with date is the ref 14701

    Here's mine with alpha's

Thanks for the great information. Are my hands the earlier alphas? I picked this up from my friends pawn shop for $1,200. I know it’s rude to post price but thought it was a good buy. I did get a new band from an Omega boutique which is on it now.

bu the way that is a gorgeous watch. I’ve been looking for a black face vintage Omega.

5 digit case reference and 17.2m serial. I say 1960. That dial is in amazing shape.

In addition to my educated guess based on the above, the OVD has the 14700 (and 14701) as having been launched in 1960, though it has been known to contain errors.

The poincoin de Matire Geneve key mark suggests the case was made by Wenger (poss the knife people?)

Are you sure that strap was from a boutique, it looks awfully like the ebay fakes, or is that a before photo?

My mistake. That strap was a nice (cheap) from eBay. The one I bought from Franklin TN boutique is a dark alligator with 18k yellow gold buckle. It was nearly $500. I just haven’t swapped it to the real one yet.

I’ll put it on when I get home. I bought another with a stainless buckle to go on my square Constellation. Gorgeous piece.

My 14700 SC with 18k ribbon dial and seamonster on back. Dauphine hands are like yours and price is...not expensive ;)

Great looking watch @hoipolloi ! I went for the 18k Seamaster because I honestly love gold and it just stood out and is in such good condition. For the price I could NOT pass it up.
