The watches arrived ok and he sent me some photos. It was too late to change the Timex for solar and he went for a no date Dan Henry which is a brave first choice for a regular watch. His fathers watch is a Gerrard, very well respected for watches back in the day in the UK.
Not a bad starter set and he did not break the bank.

@Omegafanman Thanks for letting us be part of the journey.

Fantastic set to start him off.

Now all he need is to balance the collection new vs vintage......

Now look what we have started…..
He is now looking for a nice strap for his fathers watch. I would guess something with a vintage feel as near to original as possible. I am also advising him on a service for it. Any suggestions for a nice strap and buckle or deployant combination to fit that bill?
I am rubbish with straps etc… always OEM for me so not able to help. All ideas appreciated.
His late fathers watch is dated 1979. Photo is of a similar one (thanks @tapaptpat for the link)
Looks like the watch is 34mm with 18mm lugs…

Late to the party, I know, but at that price point I'd be at the Yema Rallygraf.

I do like those. His deal is done now / selection made but I think they were in the melting pot. Looking for A new strap for his late fathers watch now. Have found some old threads + had some help above on that already.

IMHO you can pick any one of the straps you've shown.

1 is closet to original
2 classic dress black
3 a lovely leather brown look
4 who doesn't like chocolate
5 hint of chilly hot red
6 neutral designed for comfort.

My top 3 are 1,2 and 4 on no particular order
But controversially if you can choose the stitch colour on 3 to be yellow to match gold, white for contrast, gray for neutrality or orange/red for a punch of colour, So my vote for #3

I thought 3 worked well also (left to right) so that gets my vote. Will see what the owner thinks....

Probably twice a month but aside from beer (and now watches) there is an ulterior motive (target rifle club). The issued Pulsar is 2016 / very pleased with it. I have a 2001 as well. Currently getting a Quartz CWC repaired for someone which I might end up buying. Bit of thread drift but it is a nice watch... 1991. I am having to put a new Movement in (955.112) what would be a fair price these days after that change do you think?

Is that one Long and One Short? 🤔

91
I'm not up on the numbers but you have perked my interest,
These were all trending upward from when I bought mine.
And you are probably correct its the not bad time to get an example.

The batch that the 91 fall into is the longest run of consecutive issue numbers.
The closer to serial #82000 the better the perceived value would be. At least from my point of view.
The seem to be sitting around £175-£250 on ebay for a slim.
So if i were buying and its lets say range of 81999 to 82100 at under 175 I'd be pleased 👎

What have you been offered?
A replacement movement + labour + battery + watch + issued strap + mod box.
£150? 😗
