Over a few (too many) beers last night somone who is not a watch guy and currently does not have a watch told me they really liked the Vincero Collective Rogue and were thinking of buying it. I guess their buget would be around £300. I think anyone getting into watches is a cool thing, but should I steer them to something else .... and if so what. I have a few ideas but wonder what team OF thinks? They guy is a massive F1 fan so I guess something modern / I can see why he like the VC which is only £300 . He is not fussy for a manual movement which is good given the price point. He is not a metal bracelet fan. Any feedback appreciated. Part of me is thinking Seiko as it is a Seiko movement anyway? . These meca-quartz watches are an interesting development and are competitively priced. The only one I have is a Dan Henry and I’m more than happy with it. The advantage of my DH (imho) over the Vincero you’ve posted is that the absence of a date feature means that I can set it and forget it until the battery needs replacing. No end of month advancing - just good to go whenever. (They’re sold with bracelets and straps).
@Spruce Thanks for the sugestion I got a Fulan Marri and liked that. Furlan Marri Nero Sabbia mecaquartz unboxing | Omega Forums I had not considered Dan Henry. Brand wise how does it compare with VC? I dont think the one you listed would not be a match for the chap in question but these might (not sure if he is ready to jump to a no date as a first one) 1962 Racing Chronograph | Dan Henry Vintage Watches (danhenrywatches.com)
You can get a real entry level omega Geneve for similar money. Might not be to his taste but the Dan Henry posted above is definitely a step up too.
Let him get into the door to a handed watch first. Steer him to Seiko but let him choose. Have bamboozled someone out of a 3 handled watch into a digital G-Shock. (Gave them too many choices and they got over comparing and just bought a G-Shock)
My son has a couple of Sternglass. One quartz and one mechanical. The quality is impressive. I believe they just came out with this Chronograph. Same price point. Very good customer service.
Personally, I’d steer him toward one of the new Seiko Speedtimers. Has an updated solar-powered chronograph movement.
Those get my vote so far. They're smaller than the one your friend chose, but that's a big plus for me. You got me looking at them now...
He liked it as well. 39mm as opposed to 43mm which as you say is a bonus (although black can wear smaller). I thought these were nice for the price as well - Accurist 7367 Stainless Steel Brown Leather Strap Watch - W19192 | F.Hinds Jewellers (fhinds.co.uk)
@Omegafanman Hmm tricky not got alot to go so: So my brief is British Mil chrono. - Failed as unrealistic unless you are able to buy at source and even then budget is restrictive. Adjusting parameters a Civvie version are possible..on ebay - You are looking for V657-X063, V657-X045, PJN305X1, PM3129X1 or later remakes like https://www.rubiconwatches.com/pulsar-gents-military-watch-pm3129x1-formally-pjn305x1-p422 https://www.rubiconwatches.com/pulsar-gents-military-watch-pm3175x1-formally-pjn299x1-p430 Well under budget was a success but availability and condition is as you find it. Plus one on the Larry S suggestion on a clean looking Zenith .. i mean Sternglass and to Standy for handeling a watch to help with choosing
Actually reading is hard, I failed again on budget - but to serve as an inspiration https://www.fratellowatches.com/eve...hip-deal-for-the-new-formula-one-season/#gref Lastly I hope you see the racing link in the Porche danisgn https://www.timeline.watch/watch/1972-porsche-design-orfina/ https://www.timeline.watch/watch/porsche-design-chronograph-orfina/ Going to bed honest....
Thanks for helping Pat. The Pulsars are a nice honest option and the brand has a good military pedigree. The guy is not a bracelet fan but aside from F1 he loves motorcycles and has had the need for speed in his youth so the Dan Henry and Ducati could be a hit. From your F1 link (Fratello) I think this could also be an option now… https://www.fratellowatches.com/han...casio-edifice-eqb-1000at-scuderia-alphatauri/
It looks like it will be a Dan Henry …. And a Pulsar. Thanks all for the replies. Now he is thinking about a budget dress watch……. I see him on a slippery slope :0)
@Larry S your son has seriously great taste in his collection... I'm having to pull out the dazzling colours to make up for the Timex 4xAces Really wish we could go vintage for you @Omegafanman then I could speak with some experience. Rather than point at things I think are nice. So we go again sub £300 Dress Initially i found the Limited edition Silver leaf lacquer sadly the are way out of budget and JP market only adding to import cost However the introduction of a new mail line collection called Citizen Tsuyosa as a really strong/clean look review here 2022 https://monochrome-watches.com/intr...-with-integrated-bracelet-nj0150-specs-price/ 2023 here https://monochrome-watches.com/2023...gradient-blue-teal-dial-gold-red-specs-price/ Then there is the Rival Seiko Presage line Here is a huge collection https://www.seikowatches.com/uk-en/products/presage/basic Below are some of my choices, Note these are all quite thick watch due to automatic movement. Not as a cuff stealth watch. There are so many good value choices - Casio with tiffany dial and Orient Bambino to just out of range Mondaine to well double budget Nomos. Not to mention No longer available Brew etc etc. Let someone else have a go Cheers Pat
