Very much appreciate some advice on this Speedmaster listed as: 'Vintage Pre Moon 145.022-69 1969 DON Bezel Tritium' (..) 'The 29.11m movement number indicated a March 1970 production date per ilovemyspeedmaster'I'm really no expert, but to me the hand set doesn't look correct, the crown looks to me like a late service crown, and the bezel insert is a bit of a mess.. But with that in mind, what else is looks wrong with this? And what would be a good price for this?

Have you seen the price list on speedmaster101.com it is helpful to give idea of price range.

Hi, oh, ok, they look quite a bluish white and very bright to me, with an unexpected granular looking texture, also towards the point of the hour hand, where the lume sits, it looks to be soft and diminishing, rather than crisp, rectilinear and squared off as I would have expected. Yes, I had a look on Speedmaster 101, it suggests $2500 to $2800 (USD) for fair condition, the seller is asking the equivalent of $4700 USD

Hi, a nice example of a watch that has lived a life, and apart from the minute hand it looks honest to me. Crowns usualy get chaged with a service so not a problem.
Condition is fair to good so the asking price is to high. Compare it with a very good one from a Canadian dealer asking usd 4900,- on Chrono24,

That looks like a really nice example, just wish it was this side of the pond (UK), as the import duties will be pretty heavy, I think

I just noticed there seems to be quite a lot of wear to the back of the lugs. I'm just wondering if that is due to the horns of an ill-fitting bracelet?

"Condition is everything." "You can't make a racehorse out of a donkey."... the sayings tell us not to buy for the price. It's sometimes tempting to tell yourself that you can own a Speed for a reasonable price, but you have to stay clear-headed to avoid disappointments when you resell. In short, IMO it's not a good investment. It's lived too long and isn't flattering. I would only keep it if it was a family watch, linked to the history of a loved one. But for this budget it's now possible to find better. The market has returned to normal. Continue your search and you'll be pleased to find a more pleasant one.

I’d go further and say it’s a buyers market right now so sellers who are motivated have to be flexible and realistic and buyers can be picky and make offers.

OP / where do you see this watch? Poor? Fair? Good? In between?

You make some very good points, thank you ..I just wanted something that I could daily without worrying about it picking up too many dings or scratches, and I think if it were in a really nice condition, then I wouldn't feel that comfortable wearing it so often.

Yes, it does seem to be more favourable for buyers right now.. I'd say it was in fair condition overall. What do you think?

A Speedy is a Speedy....😉!
But:
Do you like it, and do you want it?
There has been some work done to the hands, and I do think that the lume on the indices looks a bit strange?
Can you get more close - ups on them?
And maybe a UV picture?
Proof of service?

And the asking price - waaaay to high!

We just had a thread about lume that spills over a bit in the step, interesting to see it again here. I bet it's pretty common.

Hi, thank you, yes, the seller said that the hands have been re-lumed👍.. before I ask him any other questions, I think it's best to find out first if he is prepared to accept market value (as per Speedmaster101) or not.
