Had you not considered taking the case as well, and removing the engraving! Or was the seller not willing to make the names known? Sounds sketchy to me! The serial number on the movement would likely disclose as much or more than engraving on the case. Had you not thought of that? On a significant watch such as this, no doubt all serial numbers were recorded somewhere. Good luck,
This is an 1158 movement which is based on the Valjoux 7750. The 1158 is a delux version of the Omega 1155 which was used in the Speedmaster date 38mm 3811.50.JO for the Albertville Olympics. Since the Valjoux 7750 is fairly common, you might be able to find a suitable case (assuming you can find a good watchmaker to do any needed modifations).
This is a friendly place. If you want to be taken seriously, be friendly. Start with introducing yourself. This is your first post, so...... The watch could easily be stolen . Melting the case and get rid of the rest. Possible. And would not be the first time. Bama has given you the answers already. So, start your own research and come back with your results. Kind regards.
