I take it that you were the lucky buyer. I've seen a couple without the extra crown and with this type of locking mechanism.

Quite a bit rarer than the standard one. My guess is that this particular watch may have been used by the Naval Academy in some sort of training of potential pilots back in the 1930's. Either that, or it was simply a factory made commemorative dial.

I had thought that Longines dials with the patent number were not military issued pieces, but this one may make me change that assumption.
