UPS just pulled a no brainer

I once ordered reef aquarium equipment which was in the few hundred dollars. UPS was the only option as shipper from that vendor. On the day it should have been delivered, I was home so I was patiently waiting for the package. I live in a town-home complex so I know delivery trucks like to make two passes either early in the AM for the "next day" cut off or at the end of the day. The package did not get delivered in the AM, so I knew it would come around dinner time. Dinner came and went and nobody showed up. Checked the app and it showed that the item was delivered! What? How? I was home the whole time. Worse off, it said "Delivered on 2nd floor patio." That's damn confusing as I didnt have any second floor patios... Checked on the regular patio, as they've dropped off packages there before, but nothing was there. Checked in the alley by the garage, as they've left packages there too, still nothing. Called UPS and they said that they would start an inquiry and somebody would reach out to me in the next few hours, which never happened. Next day PM I get a knock on the door... its the UPS guy and he has my package. He tells me that last night he was tossing a package over the patio to someone else and accidentally threw my box instead of theirs. He tried to see if someone was home, but they weren't at which point he determined that the best steps would be to mark it as delivered and come back the next day and try to get the package from the neighbor patio. That pissed me off so much, because not only did he not deliver it, he in fact left it unattended with other random people who could have easily stolen or damaged the items. I try to avoid UPS at any chance I can.

Someone sent us a gift of cheese and wine via ups. I had no idea it was coming. I was home that day had my garage door open they didn’t bother coming to the front door just put the perishable package in my garage obscured by a ladder and tractor. Found it a few days later. I guess the guy didn’t want to walk the extra 15 feet to the door

If that had been at my house, the bears would have been inside the garage eating the cheese and maybe breaking a wine bottle or two. It only takes leaving the door open 15 seconds for one to walk in and surprise us, although one time my daughter left it open for 15 minutes before "we've got bear".

You should reach out to UPS. If you paid for shipping, I assume you could get a reimbursement this way, the same way the shipping is fully reimbursed if they don't reach the promised date (for example, overnight or two-day).

Definitely have had a few instances with both UPS and FedEx where I was just verbally asked for the last name rather than confirm. I don't know if there is a distinction between 'direct signature' (to recipient) and 'adult signature' but my drivers have never shown me there was a difference at all between the two.

This happened to me with UPS before as well, with a watch.
Never with FedEx.

In fact, with FedEx, the guy always drops it off and says:
"hey man, you know you don't have to pay extra for signature right it's not worth it i can just leave it for you if you don't request it"

and every time I'm like:
"K"

This happened in the last three quarters of an hour
Yesterday got a message:

This morning I find this on my doorstep:

This is inside:

I actually watched the delivery person drop the package at the door on my security camera, no knock..................

Toll are generally crap.
My Postie and the Startrack courier (Australia Post) have been pretty good, always checking my name and getting a signature. The Startrack guy has a new device that records GPS location of delivery, a signature if required and a photo of delivery evidence.

Hope I haven't put the mozz on myself now 😵‍💫.

USPS is the only carrier to have lost a package on me. A nice 105.012.66 HB, off eBay, from only three hundred miles away. Seller had to eat it. On other occasions, packages were marked delivered on line and only actually delivered hours later, sometimes the next day.

UPS is simply unreliable. Some drivers are diligent, some not. I don’t trust them with my stuff if I don’t have too. Many routinely leave signature packages at the door.

Fedex varies based on the sender. When FedEx delivers iPhones or iPads, the drivers are very careful to get my name and signature. When FedEx delivers from high end merchants, they’re also pretty good. Nondescript packages are sometimes treated more casually. Of course, FedEx Ground is a different story - much less professional.

And then there was this package from France. My USPS carrier was visibly embarrassed to deliver it to me.

It was wet inside

Fortunately, no harm, no foul. But I did nearly crap my pants when I first saw the package.

Oh! And FedEx has been the most helpful in working stuff through Customs.

If there is one service I will avoid, it's UPS. I get shipments via FedEx all the time, and they are very good with signature items, and have never left one that required a signature at the doorstep. At one point the driver I had gave me his cell number, so if I was going to miss him I could shoot him a text and let him know I wouldn't be there. He used to come around the time of day when I was typically out walking the dogs, so if I didn't; answer, he would drive around the block looking for me to sign for the parcels. In some cases when he missed me, if he had time he would drive back to my area at the end of his day to drop the parcel off.

He has a different route now, but even the fill in drivers are all good, and the new "permanent" driver on this route is very good.

Canada Post is similar, in that I know the person who does this route (her mother lives 4 doors down from us) so that certainly helps. She is very diligent with parcels, so doesn't leave them out ever, and will come back a second time if I am not home. No issues there.

UPS is about as opposite as you can get. They sometimes knock, and sometimes just leave the package at the door. The "regular" driver knows I'm here, because if I am quick enough I have caught him a few times as he's getting back in his truck, and I have yelled out "Thanks - do you need a signature for this?" and he has come back to get it. Over about 5 years time, he has now come to realize that if he just knocks and waits for 20 seconds, I'll answer the door, so it's decent now, but it's not always the same guy.

Cheers, Al

Also bought the book. This thing is endlessly configurable. First good camera in a very very long time. Fingers crossed.

I have had good luck and bad luck with every carrier.m when sending packages but fedex has been extra poor on a few occasions but the inconsistency is pretty universal. My UPS guy is excellent but then again my normal fedex driver is also....
