Can I request that, for the betterment of mankind everywhere, we share more than one picture of a watch and at least one should not be head on.

Let's see those facets, bezels, and edges!

Great thread. I can't offer any pic though. Just one thought: I totally acknowledge that some collectors want a truly untouched piece (meaning by the hands of a polishing watchmaker). On the other hand, and particularly when it comes to dress watches, doesn't a substantial amount of scratches takes away all that dressy character? To me the same as with old, faded paintings - there can be something good in restoring the old grandeur, can even give back some of the original flair ... there's perhaps a difference between authentic and original... that was a long thought ...

Apologies for the dodgy dining table pics.

My first (and so far only) vintage find on OF. I was fortunate to find this SM30 with sharp facets and edges. It’s not perfect, but I love it.

Apropos of this thread, my 2254 is presently at Omega Canada down east; I know, I know....!! but they serviced it 2 years ago and there was a warranty issue they were willing to look after at no cost. Anyway, I got a call from the local Omega boutique not 20 minutes ago confirming my request to leave it unpolished after the service (whew!).

I agree in principle but for the purpose of this threat (showing unpolished cases by contrast to (hardly) polished examples it might be sufficient to state the most relevant issues from a head on pic. In my case I would say , that one pic (head on) states all what is basic for a beginner (casewise).

All internal lug bevels are still intact and still mirrored, like the second picture, right lug.

Hey @MSNWatch what does an unpolished 2998 look like?

😉
An unpolished 2998 probably would be rare. I am the third owner of this one, having very fortunately been able to acquire it from my watchmaker who said "I think this has had a very easy life".
Polished ?
Probably, my pics may not be good enough for the experts.

Unfortunately this Rolex GMT 16750 is not my watch!

I am currently searching for one in this condition and am using this pic both as a reference and inspiration.

145.022 from 1981... trade it for a nice 1986 so don't have it anymore.

A shame this is an Omega thread, otherwise I would have had a few decent ones to show 😀

Which is why @MSNWatch was asked to show his - yours is great, but not really appropriate in a thread about unpolished watches - as are a few more shown here so far 😉

Unpolished Speedmaster 105.003 (Ed White)

Damn, so this is what an unpolished Ed White case looks like. So few of them out there.. Loving the bezel as well 👍
