Sell???????????? I sell nothing. I'm such a hoarder.

But really, I did start selling a few watches. Ok 1 watch. But I took pictures of like 10 others to sell. (watch for an entry level Geneve soon!)

I am definitely a dog person but my wife says if I get a dog I have to look after it. She said she wanted a cat. She got me to agree after a few beers, but I told her if she got a cat I have no interest in it and I wouldn't lift a finger to look after it in any way what so ever. She was ok with that. Anyway we got a cat from a rescue centre. I totally love our little cat. She has brought so much joy to our house. I am going to get a dog when I retire, but for now I am happy with our little furball. Alma, which means Apple in Azari, is such a cutie, even though she jumps on me every morning at 5am demanding her breakfast.

Yes, I actually did exactly this before I purchased this last speedmaster. And, ironically, a cat was involved! One of my Maine Coons swallowed some foam bath toys right before I was planning on purchasing a Speedmaster, and had costly surgery. It went from me purchasing a new watch outright to me deciding there were some collectible items that had been hanging around and seen little use or attention in years that could help fund the purchase.

This is something I have done before... not sure if you have ever heard of the concept of Swedish death cleaning, but every couple of years I assess some of the things I have accumulated and decide whether or not they will continue to have real value into the future, or if the value I perceive they have is totally emotional attachment and that they will just be "clutter" in the future. I started doing this.. maybe a decade ago? I discovered that there's just a lot of stuff that I purchase that winds up with an emotional obligation more than any sort of real value to me or even utility in some cases. Really fancy Japanese kitchen knives that have been sitting in drawers for years unused, extra pieces of griswold cast iron, decanters, old books- collectible figurines from video games... magic cards- whatever it may be.

I bet you have some stuff around like that that you could move, just run it through questions like "how would I feel if I didn't have this in a year?"

As I see it the major upside to the Speedmaster is that if you find one used for a good price, at least you know it is movable and possibly even liquidly so. Definitely some Collectibles have incredibly small demand and can be difficult to move.

Good luck!

Maine coons come with baggage such as vacuum cleaners, for a cat that does not a lot they sure know how to produce fur!

Maybe it’s because I haven’t been around here as much lately, but I had been missing a really good thread drift. Thanks @dsio for giving us a good laugh like in the good ol days.👍

3! ouch, I've only had one at a time and you need to vacuum every day.
I like how if you brush them after about 4 or 5 minutes you have a pile of fur bigger than the cat itself yet the cat still looks exactly the same size, You could probably do that every day and still need to vacuum every day as they continue to shed fur.

That said they are the best cat ever.

Yes, that's what my wife does! Kalameet-- the blue smoke in the image above, always tries to steal her hair back.

We have wood floors everywhere except for the bedrooms, and yes, I have to dust mop/vac every single day!

To the OP @CBM1590 's original question, yes I have been doing this for the last couple years to fund watch services and purchases. I've have some decent successes but I wouldn't say it's been highly lucrative, but it has felt great to part with items I'm no longer using and make a little cash as well. Was able to sell my old Nintendo GameCube games, like 20-25 of them, for a nice sum of just over $800 usd.

okay, sorry for the distraction, back to the cat-sets hijacking. 😁

I pulled out the N64 and first gen xbox and considered doing the same thing, but then the kids and I wound up playing Mario 64 and Burnout 3 instead. It feels great to clean out/up old stuff- but sometimes it feels just as great to revisit it and share it with the next generation. congrats on moving the old game cube games.

I have considered selling my soul for certain JLC models.

Which JLC do you covet enough that you'd consider it?

Totally agree! If I still had our N64 with Mario 64 I probably would have hooked it up and kept it. I actually was going to part with the GameCube itself as well but my brother wanted it and one of the games to give a try before we sell it. He still hasn't hooked it up to play the game, but now it's collecting dust at his place so no worries for me. hahaha
