We all have stuff laying around that has value but remains unused. Have you ever sold, or thought of selling such, to fund watches or watch-related items? I find myself walking around and sometimes thinking, “that could go in the speedie fund”. Anyone else?

I considered selling the cat but was told they are not that desirable.

Yes, I recently went through a phase where I wanted to start selling all kinds of random things laying around. I did get rid of some stuff on Facebook Marketplace including a couple of quartz watches I decided I’d never wear. I was targeting the funds for tools to start doing basic watch destruction, I mean repair.

I’ve had a bunch of clothes sitting in a cedar closet in our basement for 2+ years that didn’t fit anymore, weren’t being worn. I gave a significant portion away to charity but there was about 1/3 that had enough value and were in new or nearly new condition that I finally got around to listing on app called Poshmark.

$700 in a week! So happy to have them out of my life, decluttered the house, and put some $ in my jeans… definitely worth the exercise. (This sounds like an ad but is not! 😀 )

Going by the expression on that cat’s face, it might know that you were considering selling it, either that or the damned thing is always belligerent…….no wonder you considered selling it!

Got a couple of these sitting in my closet. My Leica rangefinder days are over. No new watch, but service bill for 3 this year will hurt like hell.

Coincidentally, I've been putting a lot of thought lately into doing kind of the opposite of what you're suggesting: I'm considering converting much of my collection back into cash. Our children have nearly zero interest in wearing or possessing mechanical watches so it seems a waste to burden them with stuff they don't want and wouldn't have a clue how to sell properly. There will be a handful of keepsake watches that I'll hold onto, but that's it.

What would I do with the cash generated? Well, I will be transitioning from fully employed to retired over the next couple of years, so it seems fitting at this time to simply convert the proceeds from one hobby into another. For example, there are more aircraft rental hours available from my watch collection than I will ever have time to fully utilize (assuming of course that I don't do something crazy like fly turbine-powered aircraft).

All the more reason to consider turbine powered aircraft……after all you’re not doing a hobby properly unless it consumes all your financial resources!

Hmm drop all the watches but 2… 3… well maybe 4. Well those other 2 should stay.

Nevermind just work more hours at the second job teaching to get the air cooled 911.

NOT THE CAT ! Not much of a market for used cats anyways. I know no one is interested in my cat.

Yea people don’t pay much for a used cat these days, Trev bought one cheap recently and it’s a bit of a weird one. Like half its brain is missing even by Siamese standards.

You have to be careful in the cat flipping market, there are to many used cat in the grey market with dodgy players all expecting to make a quick buck palming off used examples as new.

And without proper research you might end up with a Franken-cat!

I’m on the waiting list for a Rolex cat. Had to buy 2 hens, a goldfish and a donkey, but hoping to flip them.
