Okay, I have to do this ...

I always thought Polerouters are a thing of beauty.

Then I found this.

I can't live with being the only one here to see this.

Sorry.

Edit: Model no. is 918 600, if anyone wants to know. Some additional photos in the listing, but I didn't want to include all of them. Even maliciousness has limits.

I may have some bad news for you 馃槈.

I was drawn to this due to the inscription on the dial, the price was low and I was definitely under the influence of Andrew's Polerouter book that extensively features models inscribed with the names of various Levantine potentates (I'll start a separate post to see if we can collectively track down who it was gifted by). The whole Polerouter Genta story is both an interesting and incredibly obfuscated one. We'll likely never know the exact arrangements under which Genta was engaged at the Polerouter's inception (if there is anything in the archives I imagine the new owners won't spare any effort in letting us know when they are ready) but I don't see the watch above as any less beautiful than where our mate Gerry ended up 馃槣.

Anyway - I'm sticking to my story. @Mazoue made me do it!

I can certainly agree that the Polerouter we both linked is every bit as beautiful as the Gerald Genta watch you've shown 馃槑

The arabic dedication makes it interesting, I agree. The more I dive into this, the more often I stumble over watches with inscriptions, heraldry, and even portraits of Middle Eastern statesmen (I think I remember seeing Saddam Hussein's face on one UG). One could start a collection with just these, it would be a very interesting angle...

The latest one I've seen is an Universal Geneve with cal. 620, apparently from 1962 and with a dedication from King Saud I of Saudi Arabia. I'll leave a link and some pictures:

Interesting 4 digit Uweco. https://www.ebay.fr/itm/186147911425 It was on ebay before but for a much higher price. Now a BIN of EUR 549. I snoozed too long (too much watches and should sell some first...)

Discussed this one with @martinc and he pointed out that there is a number on the lug. This is typically for some 4 digit references but not for ref 6309. Also this ref is typically chromed and has another type of bezel than this watch. Also the dials are different but that does not say that much for 90 year old watches. I assume that this dial is legit although I have no similar Uweco on record (but I do have other UG (derivatives) with very similar dials).
My/our guestimate is that this is (indeed) a 4 digit but not a 6309 so the caseback must have been swapped
This one is also back - with better pics and now in Poland - and the price has doubled (but it is serviced now). 100% original according to the seller ;-) https://www.ebay.com/itm/116028539645
