Why not? Reference of others and close serial?

As in that it appears to be a different watch than the 7 referenced in the article. Ref., serial and movement nr. check out.

This is a bit of an oddity - I think it's already run a couple of times.

The only Compressor case UG I was aware of is the Polerouter Sub and I can't see this being any use on the caseback. Any ideas?

This is a “service dial”. Made by UG but not original to the watch. Can be easily recognised by “Tri Compax” instead of “Tri-Compax” (no dash) and by the specific layout. It seems that only one graphic design of these service dials existed.
The original dial would have been something with an early 50s vibe. 😀

Fully agree, nothing wrong with that. It is an original UG produced dial. There is a whole thread on these dials ... it is a 60s service dial made for early tri compax references ...

The Film Compax pics have been uploaded: not too bad IMHO

Although I would perhaps have expected Universal Watch on the movement and an UG inscription in the CB this may be one of the first UG wristwatches. Interesting number on the movement anyway

I'm struggling to understand how you've come to consider this as one of the first wristwatches (is it the movement number?). I'm equally sceptical about it having UG rather than UW and my spidey sense errs far more likely in the direction of it being a franken. As for 1943...

Completely missed this one but too nice not to post. Auctioned in Q2 2023 in Brazil. Early Compur with sector dial. 37,5mm!
