This is the « pre nina » early version of the watch, with steel hands, fully original 😀

That pre-Nina is incredible. The conditions look superb and is a quite rare reference 😎

Thanks Florent for the info, I am kind of new to Universal Geneves, now I notice it has an applied logo, not printed on the dial too. More elegant than the later version with the black hands too. I have been looking at another one coming up at auction, here is the link, what do you all think? The crown is unsigned, does that mean its a replacement, or did some come unsigned?

Hello Don,

This is the later version of the watch.

The dial seems more worn, the crystal is not original (not signed), the crown is a replacement also (not signed), the case seems polished (no visible serial and model number at the back and lugs not sharp)

Dial, hands, pushers and case are original

It's a nice watch also, the price is very attractive, and bids must go on.

Only the top conditions earlier models reached very high prices, up to 47.500$ at chrisite's auction (but it was a full set NOS one)

I won't be surprised if the top condition pre-Nina on eBay will end 1,5 or maybe 2 times more expensive than the other one 😗

Completely agree re crown and polished case.

I have to disagree regarding the dial though. I am a sucker for patina and I absolutely love those black hands against the creamy dial.

Although I respect the virtues of the eBay pre-Nina and suspect you are right about relative values, I would personally prefer to wear the HA Nina (with perhaps a replacement signed crown).

That's what we call personal taste / preferences 😉👍 Both watches are lovely 😝 But i always preferred the earlier one ...

Thanks guys, they both look nice I agree, lets see where the bidding goes! Is it difficult or impossible to find replacement crown and crystal?

Probably on the one on eBay, but I pretty sure that my bids will be way to low to win 😵‍💫

I think I prefer the other one, so we won't be in competition, but I definitely like the bay one's strap better! What do you think the watches will sell for 20 for mine and 30 for yours?

My concerns on a first look would be:

- the hands for the sub-dial at 12 o'clock, in particular the hour hand definitely looks wrong

- the damage to the case underneath the bezel (not sure how big a problem this could become although it is not normally visible)

Otherwise looks original to me and in the condition I would expect a watch almost 70 years old to be in.
