Here , from this thread. An ultraman auction that didn't reach reserve. It reached iirc 21k USD at that auction.

The question what was the reserve is answered:

Interested to see if there are any serious bidders. Not an expert on these but 45k USD starting/reserve is a tad high on this.

What are your oppinions?

Just for an orange hand? lol
People can be irrational. Look at rhe silliness on Rolex, and even Omega, dial quirks.

This is just an investment (perhaps good or not) but not watch passion IMHO...

No one really knows, not even Omega.
On this note - if it is true and even Omega does not know - logic says that there is no identifier (serial etc.) for an Ultraman watch? And if so - is it as simple as some getting or faking an orange sweep?

Serial must begin with 2607xxxx and correct hand . Shiny dial not proven I don’t think.

now with EOA included! 50k, any takers?

Well , it is in nice condition but baring a click from a person with absolut financial freedom and a love for watches, I don't see this going anywhere. Seeing the Phillips result that @Spacefruit posted, I'd guestimate that the ~22k USD(precious eBay auction on this) was somewhat low but probably would have reached that 24k if it had been a no-reserve auction.

I did see one go for around 35k € in Chrono24 a month ago so maybe the seller wants to outdo that result. 😁

I think the difference here is that there’s no way to be certain that the “ultraman” one is considering purchasing actually is an ultraman. So buying one of these is literally paying a $20k+ premium for an orange hand, with no guarantee or provenance. It’s absurd.

Perhaps. The Omega Extract does state it is a "Special model fitted with orange chronograph hand". That, plus the serial number range, would seem to give a good provenance that this watch did come from the factory with the orange hand, hence it is a so-called 'Ultraman'. But considering no one really knows how many were made and why they were made means you pay a huge premium for the orange hand and the mystery behind it that no one can answer. That is important to some collectors and they will pay money for it. I still don't think this particular watch is being marketed correctly.

I may have misread (or entirely made this up), but I thought omega was requiring a photo with extracts. So someone sends omega a pic of a speedy with a red hand, and omega replies with an extract stating that the watch has a red hand. That doesn’t exactly inspire confidence. And isn’t the understood serial range still 10,000 pieces? That’s a bit too wide for my comfort.

Do we know of anyone who has sent in nothing more than a serial to omega and had them come back with “fitted with red hand”? That’s the only way I would believe it.

Good question, I don't know if the orange hand notation is in Omega's archives or they add it if the pic supplied has one. If it's the latter the Extract isn't worth much.
