Sorry to hear. I suppose this isn't fitted to the watch no more?
I was gonna post this in a brand new post about how awesome Simon Freese is... But since you politely asked... Here is a pic of the ruined bezel which was just installed on my watch that's in Simon Freese's care...He revived the bezel as well as the movement... Yes, he doesn't only just service Omega's...

Good day all.

So here are the before and after pics of my 105.012 from servicing.
The watch maker ran the watch through the ultra sonic.
Kindly take note of the bezel. It wasn't sealed for protection before it was cleaned.
Warning to everyone out there.

I feel so sorry for you, this is a nighmare..not just about loss of value, but destruction on something one liked the way it was..

I'm struggling to see how anyone who knows what they're doing would think it's reasonable to put a 50 year old anodised aluminium bezel in an ultrasonic cleaner.

Couldn't help it, it had the old owner's DNA and some of us are germophobes...

I was referring more to the watchmaker in the OP.

What a nightmare! That's something I would never have known about, just sorry I found out about this way.. as has been said, an experienced watch maker ought to have known..

Although it's a shame that this happened, it is relatively easy to repaint a steel bezel.

can you back that up with an example of a Speedy bezel? I mean one that looks exactly or better than before that damage happend?

I think he's referring to the steel Daytona or early 2915 bezels rather than the anodised aluminium bezels.

What a shame. I hope the watch maker does the right thing and replaces with a similar or better condition replacement DON.

Like others, I commiserate with your loss. It sounds like you've done work with the owner before, so I'm optimistic they can manage some kind of arrangement.

Still, you never get back what was lost. 馃檨

Yeah that's correct. I saw a steel bezel and assumed it was the OPs. Shame about his DON bezel.

I dont want to just come in all duche blazing but why put the bezel in the ultrasonic?! did he dunk your dial and hands too.. thats a terrible idea its basically paint.. what did he say?!

On steel bezels yea we use warhammer paint its bloody amazing a great tip for anyone with a doxa too.. if you find the paints not sticking you can rough it up a little with a few needle pricks too

A quick update of where I am at the moment with this dilemma.
The watch maker failed to understand the relevance of a pre 70's bezel, their value, nuisances and rarity. His view was a bezel could be sourced through Omega service, despite my insistence that there are difference between DON's and DNN 's etc, and one simply can not call up and order one. He had me wait a week till one came in and could be fitted.
Viola, we have...

Oh no. Did he actually remove the insert from the steel bezel ring?!

This is even painful to see in pictures.

I hope you get compensated.
