We all know the Zenith Cairelli, but have never head of a UG Cairelli until this popped up on eBay. Anyone familiar with this model? Is it for real?

Sala PP 378 - 379 ... So many bad fakes out there ... were this real, the numbers it would be throwing off would be astonishing. Of course it's not.

Wow, that looks pretty horrible too....
On top of this early 60s chronograph for the Italian army, Cairelli already put his name on UG chronographs (at least) twice before: once in the 40s on what I consider the ultimate UG (the 24h, Italian military issued, big size rattrapante pilot chronograph) and even earlier than that on a uber rare gold monopusher chronograph also thought to be given to high ranks of the Italian navy in the late 1920s or very early 30s.

And note that the UG Cairelli on Sala's book has a not correct bezel..........

I’m aware that Sala, as valuable as it is, has issues. For the sake of the community here, would you care to elaborate as to why you think the bezel in the book is wrong and the one you posted is correct? This thread is sure to pop up as a reference to someone here considering a very expensive purchase. Thanks.

Here is some other UG Cairelli with the same bezel that is on my UG in photo.

All the bezel are different from the Sala's one.

Can confirm the above. On Sala's version the bezel is similar (if not same) to the much more standard Zenith Cairelli. The original Universal bezel is slightly larger with wider 'teeth', different font and configuration and more importantly it is made of bakelite!

 

And for all of the collector's community here is a macro of a not bad UG (mine ) ..........

If i would buy an other UG Cairelli, there must have a bezel like this, in my opinion.....
