··Color Commentator for the Hyperbole.They were used by pilots. led hard lives and there are very few left. Most are in rough shape, so pristine examples are really desireable. They are an interesting design from a red hot defunct manufacturer.

·looks good. In the ebay snaps, the movement looked as if it was beyond saving. I expect that you sourced parts for it and rebuilt it.

UG made few of these watches. That alone drives up the price. They also went bankrupt, so no more reissues etc will ever be msde
But Part of the reason is that Universal Geneve is a "hot" brand right now. For the past several years, prices have been skyrocketing. Kind of like what happened with Heuer. Part of it is brand awareness-sites like Hodinkee, ablogtowatch, this forum have more prominently featured this brand, and as the watch market exploded, so did UG prices in particular. And watch auctioneers like Christies and Phillips have really started to hunt for these watches, so prices keep going up.
How high can they go? Who the hell knows?

1960s watches associated with car racing became fashionable, some UGs became (very) fashionable as a result, and this spread to other UG watches. The fact that they do have beautiful designs and good movements obviously is important too. But that's not enough to explain.
