So I found this piece on eBay. I suspect there are many things wrong with this watch dial, hands, missing hand looks off to me. It’s going for $2500 US Maybe if the dial was replaced and the 12 o’clock “dummy” register was fixed and correct hands applied it’d look a lot better than it does now. For that price I’d be willing to sit on it till I could gather the parts to get it restored. I was wondering what everyone’s thoughts are?

In my opinion, the replacement parts you mentioned will be expensive and perhaps even impossible to acquire. Loose UG chrono dials are floating around but these alone can command four figure prices, before we even get on to everything else.

In addition to the issues you listed with the watch, the case looks over-polished and the pushers are also extremely worn. The asking price is beyond ambitious in my view and there is no movement shot so budget for an overhaul of that as well.

So we have problems with the dial, the hands, the pushers, the case and potentially the movement too. I would run as fast as you can away from this watch. These are beautiful references but this isn't the one.

Don't do it I'd say. Well: only if very cheap

The subdials use a different font each. The “dummy” register is one step beyond crazy. Even if cheap I wouldn’t want it. At $2,500 ?

As others (and you!) have observed, this watch is a cruel joke. I’d be worried about why the ‘dummy’ register is not working - could be a serious mechanical problem or a completely different movement inside.

I can't see the listing so I'm not sure what is meant by the issues with the dummy register, but the upper register is not intended to run, it is only set with the left crown, as a visual reminder. It's called the momento register, I guess it could be considered a proto alarm.

anyhow this watch is nutz, I wouldn't tangle with it unless crazy cheap

Well thanks everyone, I wouldn’t pay the $2500 if he’d go down to about $1500 I’d really consider it. I haven’t been able to find this watch in good condition for less than $7000k. The second crown doesn’t work is What I think the seller means by dummy register. Anyone can go check it out on eBay if they wish. seller has a auction going on right now. I feel bad for anyone that would actually pay that much for this watch.

You would be better off spending more and getting better quality, then spending less and getting lower quality. FYI I have one in good condition that is less than $7K....

True, that is a beautiful watch you have there. I’m looking for a 18kt or 14kt gold reference I’m not sure I’ll find one under $7000. I’ll just have to keep looking then and be patient. The seller refused to show me the movement so I moved on. Thanks again everyone

Aero in gold cases are less common, I don’t have a sense on the market. It’s more of a tool watch in SS for me. Good luck with the hunt, I agree finding something correct will probably be quite expensive, it’s a very niche market.

Well I ended up paying $750 for the watch I showed everyone. I’m in disbelief at how easy it was to talk her down and explain what the problems are with the watch she was selling. but then again it was a lady selling it and her husband just died she’s selling all of his Rolex and other watches for penny’s basically. I’m going to buy a white gold day date for $7500 from her. I’ve been finding crazy deals lately.

Definitely, the lady had it serviced but didn’t get photos so I’m going to be taking it to my watchmaker here in a couple days. I’ve already found a dial for $650 just need to find hands which will be more of a problem. I found two dials that’ll work actually.
