The UG 20721 with cal 263 has arrived and I think that its in good shape with what I hope is one minor issue: the tips of the minute and second hands are both bent downwards. Otherwise the dial is in good shape with a little bit of lume loss to 10 and 12 (and the hour hand). The case looks good to me with a ding to the bezel at 4 and damage to the slots on the case-back at 1 and 7. While the movement is not running it just looks a little dirty rather than oxidized (with the possible exception of the tail of the sweep seconds cock). Overall I believe that everything should clean up nicely. Thanks to @bgrisso for pointing out the listing and @Larry S for seconding it.

Here are some questions about how to proceed with a sympathetic restoration:

I assume that getting the case cleaned but not polished and the movement serviced is the right thing to do.

How hard it will it be to straighten the minute and second hand tips? Would that risk further damage the lume on the minute hand or worse its bluing? Would this require a more specialized watchmaker?

Anything else that I should be aware of?

Thanks and here are some pix:

Personally I’d do the minimum … Movement service, second hand straighten, crystal polish…leave case alone. Might ask the watchmaker to stabilize the lume.

I sometimes see the tips curved to match the dial curve. Not sure if that was factory or someone later. I think trying to bend the minute hand will risk the lume in this situation. As long as the hands are not making contact with the dial I probably would not stress too much. As Larry said I would do the minimum. Service, see if you can preserve the crystal, if not replace it, and maybe stabilize lume.

Thanks to both of you for your advice, it's very helpful. It's a great watch with a suprisingly substantial case for its size. Very happy to have picked this up and want to do right by it. Will post again when I've had it serviced.

Be careful with that second hand. If your watchmaker does not feel comfortable, don’t do it.
