The Unicorn Has Arrived

Here it is, boys (and girls). Years of searching and careful research to find this one. A spectacular 1958 CK 2990 Ranchero with an original and untouched dial and handset. It was made three weeks after I was born and it is a thing of beauty. I can’t imagine ever topping this. It’s certainly the new crown jewel of my collection.

Haven’t even thought about a bracelet yet, but it’s a great idea. I have to admit, though, that it looks great on the suede strap.

I saw recently in the parts for sale that someone had the smaller flatlink with 18mm endlinks- which if I recall was the correct one for these.

Yep, all that radium. It’s a portable nuclear fission reactor. Guess I can’t sell it on eBay. Pity …

It’s truly a thing of beauty. I said “oh, wow” out loud, enough that my wife in the next room responded, “what is it?”

Of course, then I have to say, “a gorgeous Omega Ranchero in amazing condition,” and hear her eyes rolling.

I got it through a dealer who I had done business with previously on another purchase. I’m pretty sure that he picked it up from an estate.

There is a very nice one on Chrono24 right now from an Italian dealer, but the asking price is quite steep, the small seconds hand is a replacement (needs to be white to be correct for a black dial), and I think that the dial may have been relumed (very good work, though).
