I think it looks odd.
It's a fashion item while the original is a real tool watch to be worn by pilots/racing drivers/astronauts like us.

You could not pay me enough to wear that under any circumstances....

I think the aesthetics are not to everyone’s taste, for sure. But then there’s the issue of “unusual” and “uncommon.” And sometimes those factors make something interesting, and fun.

Years ago, there was a movie entitled, “Kissing Jessica Stein,” where they posited the concept of “Sexy-Ugly,” where movie stars, like James Woods, for example, were not really handsome, but still attractive. This watch might fall into that category…

The first time I saw one of these, I thought it looked awful.

It did, but because it was in terrible condition. Then I was offered one in Paris, in flawless condition for Euros 7000 about 12 years ago - which was, and perhaps is, too much money for me.

Since then various people have offered them for between $3000 and 6000 with the bracelet.

I know also there is a small but loyal following. Am I coming round to them? Maybe.

But when I did the maths on this one, it just feels too much money, especially missing the bracelet.

What do we think?

Will it sell?

I dunno, with a strap like this, it could work ...

I was the lucky bidder on the Bukowskis’ one from last year (sorry @Aludic )

Came to know about this version when Omega published the “Speedmaster 60th anniversary list” where they showed a model for each year of production. When I checked my birth year I also had a similar reaction to William’s, thinking it wasn’t to my liking and also feeling a bit let down that it had to be so different from the rest, but after a while (as it happened with other watches) I finally came around to it.

Maybe because it was my birth year, maybe because it was quirky (it has gold but isn’t a gold watch), maybe because it’s not a limited edition but was offered only to 2 markets I decided I wanted one and when I finally saw it up for auction I pulled the trigger.

I think between Eur 4.5k - 7k is the correct range of pricing depending on condition for this watch (bracelet demands premium, I haven’t been able to find one yet at a reasonable price), will it appreciate in value? I think so, let’s wait for those 3 or 4 black swan events currently depressing the economy to be over, will its price go to the moon like a tintin? I don’t think so.

No worries. Congrats!

And if you ever think of selling; DIBS. 😁 Even though I agree with you that it won't be a crowdpleaser like the TinTin, I happen to like it enough to want to add one to my collection. Oh, and wear it, with pride.

I know these are Rolex's and not Speedy's but, it is my experience with two tone watches. Many years ago I owned an all gold Sub, as others have mentioned it was a beautiful watch but, way over the top for most wear situations. It also was very soft and dinged very easily. This, along with other items was lost in a robbery and I made the decision not to replace it with a like watch. I've since acquired a two tone Sub and a two tone GMT Root Beer. These have really grown on me and the the steel outer parts of the bracelet links minimize the dings the all gold watch suffered from. It is definitely a personal preference kind of thing but, I like mine and wear then in rotation with my other watches. My Speedy seems to get the most wrist time but, the Polar Explorer II is a close second.

I have to say something feels off. Maybe it’s the black bezel. The one post w gold bezel looked much better. And I think it would be much nicer w a 2 tone bracelet as well.
