I have the choice to buy a Tudor black bay pro new or Omega seamaster 2254.50 in good condition. All my watches are Omega I have a speedmaster professional and some vintage omegas. Which one would you choose and why?

I love my Tudor BB GMT. But in a pinch I could sell it and buy another without much effort. They're pretty common, as is the Pro. But my 2254.50 (from 2007/8) will never, ever leave my small collection, which like yours, is made up of vintage Omegas and a Speedy, plus a couple assorted newer chronos.

A good condition 2254.50? While available, they're not nearly as plentiful as a Black Bay Pro.

The difficulty of the decision is the following, I have tried the Tudor in person and yes it is bloody thick but it is also stunning! The seamaster like the speedmaster it is one of these watches that you want for years so you are satisfying an itch which goes for a long time. So the dilemma is whereas I find the Pro amazing I feel that it is likely that after some years I will flip it whereas the 2254.50 I will keep. Thanks for the responses

I would choose the 2254.50 because of the looks, the slimness, the lume, the ruggedness, the comfortable bracelet, the good movement, the case back, the way it dresses up or down with different straps, the uniqueness, the future classicness, the wave dial, the turn proof bezel, the big numbers and hash marks on the bezel, the black date wheel, the solid feel, the SAS connection and the HEV, you always have a bit of helium on tap for funny voices.

The Tudor is a bit more Rolex than a Steinhart, I guess that`s something.

I would go for the 2254. like some mentioned above, it has so many qualities that others just can not keep up with.
The overall design is timeless. The lume is one of the best in the business. It is slim, robust, versatile and reliable. It is one of my favourite watches Omega has ever created.

But just like any other watch, 2254 is not perfect. Those are my personal minor issues:
1) Due to the fact that the watch is so slim, the relatively long crown would allways dig into my forearm. Therefore i could almost never wear it on the steel bracelet due to comfort issues.
2) Bezel grip is not ideal, especially when handled with wet hands.
3) i dont like useless gimmick such as Helium Escape Valve, although if you got rid of it, then it feels like something is missing. I guess it balances the overall look of the watch. But it is pretty useless nevertheless.

Tudor Black Bay Pro i would not even consider, as i have no use for GMT hand. On the other hand the BB58 in Silver i do find very attractive and at the same price point maybe even an alternative for the 2254, depending on personal preferences.

I have a use for the GMT function as I literally live between two countries. I find the pro to be an amazingly handsome watch but thick and heavy. The 2254 is an amazing classic shape, the dial, the hands, the case. I agree with your list of minor gripes mainly for me the scalloped bezel with the comically large numbers. I like the silver and blue black bay 58 a lot, like the 2254 they are balanced. I am not such a fan of the gilt version of the bb58.

Lots of things in favour of 2254.50, except the bezel for me. That thing is so hard to grip. At least with BB Pro you dont have to worry about that
