Tudor 7016, is it fake?

The caseback inner engraving is very different to any other that I've seen (Tudorsa) and also the 'E' engraving in Stainless Steel seems wrong, as the central crossbar is too long. All genuine Rolex and Tudor engravings had a noticeably shorter central crossbar in the 'E'. Also, the slash in 7016/0 should be sloping more than it is.
This all suggests that potentially the mid case, caseback, dial, insert and hand(s) aren't original.

There is an interesting conversation thread on RWG from 9 years ago, about a stack of convincing Franken 7016’s coming from Vietnam and Thailand

All marked IV 68… ?

Case serial codes around 737738… ?

With SWISS-T <25 dials ( amongst others )

Price $275

Apparently good enough quality to fool some ‘experts’

Shame the pics aren’t loading up. I have heard about these fakes with the serial numbers 737738 to which mine is very close.

If you go to the last page of the thread, in a post from 23 May, there is a link to the supplier...

I think there are two separate issues here -
One is whether it is a fake/franken.
-The quality of the caseback print looks weird, not quite like the other IV.68 casebacks I've seen. Too thin, looks like someone just recently did this. There should be a space between TUDOR and SA (on the movement the print looks ok and comparable to others I have seen.
-I can't comment on the midcase - I am not good enough yet to do it over computer images - need to examine in person
-Bezel is certainly not original
-Dial - even on the original photo, the SWISS T<25 is wrong...

The second issue is very poorly redone dial, EVEN IF WE ARE WRONG AND THE DIAL IS REAL:
-The rose is totally messed up
-The TUDOR print is wrong
-The "SELF-WINDING" is flat - not smiling enough
-The SWISS T<25 is wrong, but even if it was right - the way it sits above the minute markers is just lazy and ugly

There were a couple of 737xxx serial on HQMilton that was sold some time ago:

Simple way to resolve this…beyond all argument

Request an Official Tudor AD sends the watch to the Rolex / Tudor Service Department for assessment & advice, to help restore it back to originality

If the watch is, perhaps, what you may believe it to be ……they will freely talk to you about what needs restoring…& what it will cost

If the watch is Franken……you will simply never see it again

I know which option, my money is on…

I didn’t know they did thatso possibly a high risk of not seeing the watch again!

If it is a Franken ?……

Why would you want to keep it ?…it can never be resold as a 7016

Accept that Fate has farted in your face…and pay a festive visit to the Seller to wish him ‘Good Tidings’

Mike Wood - Leading Rolex, & Tudor Subs expert

Nice bloke, I met him at a recent GTG .......He was in the NY Auction Room, when the Paul Newman Daytona sold

'The Old Watch Shop' 1 Market St, Southport PR8 1HH

I am sure he will confirm, or deny the watch - no idea of fee ? - call him ?

Sorry bud, but base on your pictures, that is a fake Tudor 7016. Everything is wrong on that watch. I have a 1968 Tudor 7016 Small Rose transitional with Semi pointed crown guards. Not sure if photobucket will let me post pics here(they've been giving me issues lately) but I'll gladly email them...

Hi,

I hope you guys don't mind that I receive this thread. Ive been looking at a Tudor 7106 but wanted to get an opinion on it's originality. Strap is definitely aftermarket but everything seems to check out in my opinion. But I'm not entirely sure about the bezel insert

Would appreciate your thoughts.
