If you do decide, let me know, I can help out. I got my df from Japan, I read that there are no camera import fees to the US. Turns out it was right. EMS shipping from Japan is very fast too...

Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II
I just have to go with @STANDY here. Bought my first mirrorless a week ago, and I picked up this one, the Olympus E-M10 mk II. Previously I was using a Canon T5i (700D) and it worked great, although it was bulky and a bit inconvenient for travelling. The E-M10 is just perfect, compact and good quality (+ mirrorless) and you can grab them in the second hand market with the kit lens for around 300-350€!

Bit of a story here as to how I came to buy the camera I bought recently...

I use a Nikon DSLR daily in my work, but recently went on vacation to Australia, and part of that time was spent at the Australian Open Tennis event. The last time I went to this event I had my Nikon and a 55-300 mm lens that I was hoping to get some great action shots with. Trouble is there is a rule at this event that lens size was restricted to 200 mm and below (strange but true!).

So I had to check my lens in and was stuck using my 18-55 mm kit lens for the day we were there, and all around me people had little pocket cameras that could zoom in far better than I could.

So before we left I did a little research looking for a small compact camera with a long optical zoom, and that would also do RAW files (those were my two main criteria, with a small size also being a bonus criteria). After some searching I found the Panasonic Lumix, and ended up getting the DMC-ZS60. I used just this and my iPhone on the trip, and I was able to get lots of good shots at distance with the camera, as it has 720 mm optical zoom. The fact is that was way more zoom than I really needed in most cases.

Specs are here:

https://shop.panasonic.com/support-only/DMC-ZS60.html

Once I free up some hard drive space to download everything from the camera I can post some shots, but based on what I've seen so far, I think it was a nice little camera that did an admirable job. It certainly has drawbacks compared to my full Nikon gear, but not having to stop to change lenses all the time, or carry around a backpack full of gear was nice. It's small enough that I could slip it into the pocket of my shorts and still be comfortable walking around for a bit. It also takes 4k video, along with other format options, so I have a nice set of videos from the tennis for sure.

Cheers, Al

Fuji X100f is a great compact walk around camera. Has a couple of lens adapters available for some options.

I travel with either a Leica M or Leica CL.

Ive learned that you dont need long zoom lenses to take great images, especially travel images. I generally leave with a single lens, either 50mm or 35mm only. You would be surprised how your photography can improve when you aren't using a zoom lens. The added benefit is that either camera is extremely compact. The Leica CL + 23mm Lens (35mm equivalent) is a great combo for travel.

Anything that fields a chunk of Leica glass, at the sharp end

It really is, that good

Compacts would include Leica D-Lux 7, or the current Panasonic Lumix
Hi

I keep a box of Lumix point and shoot cameras... all with Leica fronts..... cant beat them.... i have old ones at about 7.2 mega pixel to the lx 100

Good Hunting

Samsung Note 8 takes more photos for me than my Canon 5DII plus lenses. I also shoot with an IR adapted CANON G body which is great for urban and rural landscapes.

Travel photos can be very demanding and very important. I fully appreciate distortion free and tack sharp true images.
Travel with camera bags also can be very demanding.

One more plug for a fit-in-your-pocket point and shoot, then I'm done.

Damn, it's beautiful in Bonaire!

It was good enough for Everest, it will be good enough for my travels 😗
And no one was ever disappointed by a Zeiss Tessar 😁

Few shots using the Lumix from my recent trip...

Tree ferns in the Otways in Victoria:

Some California Redwoods planted In Victoria years ago for testing what species would be good for commercial production:

And from the Australian Open, Serena Williams taking a forehand while not looking at the ball:

Denis Shapovalov hitting a backhand (I could watch this guy play all day as he's very fun to watch):

And a video right from the camera with no editing - just uploaded right to YouTube. This is a US player who looked like he was close to foot faulting on nearly every serve, so I zoomed in and took a closer look:

Quite a few of the "action" shots I took at the tennis ended up blurry because of shutter release issues, but overall I'm pretty happy with this small and cheap camera.

Cheers, Al

I have an old Pentax K100D Super that I haven't touched in years, and I have a couple of the panasonic Lumix leica lensed point and shoots that we used to use with regularity too. But these days I only take the cell phone, which is a Pixel 2. As they say, the best camera to have is the one you will use. With 2 kids and all their stuff in tow, I just don't have the time and energy for anything else. But it does pretty well.

Below are (probably too many) examples out of the Pixel 2. All have been resized to 30% and a couple have been cropped, but no post processing, except for the one of the pier (I think - actually not certain).

First trip with Olympus tg-5, waterproof, shock resistant, really impressed for a compact point and shoot.
I'm below water more than above!
I have used the macro and was very pleased, also.
I am considering the TG-5. What do the macro watch shots look like?

iPhone 8 for now...likely replaced with whatever iPhone comes out in Autumn.

A million years ago I had this Leica-glassed thing https://www.dpreview.com/articles/9056344259/pansonicluminlc1 for travel. It was a little early for digital cameras in general and I couldn't stand the EVF. Colourful shots would turn out very nicely though - no post processing of this graffiti on a bagel shop in Brooklyn that I believe is now an Apple store :S
