    Hey OF!
Wondering what camera you carry when going on vacation?
I'm heading to the Mediterranean and am looking for a camera that I can bring on a cruise with.

I carry along a Canon EOS 750D and a selection of lenses plus my iPhone 6, the iPhone is probably used ten to one against the Canon.
    Lazy perhaps ?

Pentax dSLR with a few different lenses (a wide-to-telephoto, a telephoto, a wide angle and a portrait). The wide-to-telephoto gets the most use even though it is the lowest optical quality of the group, as we usually cover a lot of ground when sightseeing so being able to shoot wide-angle to catch most of a plaza, then zoom in on architectural details on a building, without changing lenses is nice. Wife usually has a point-and-shoot with a decent zoom reach. I usually get much better pics than she does, but mainly because she does not think twice shooting straight into the sun, etc. I also usually get a sore neck from having a heavy camera hanging all day.

I used to carry an Olympus OM (-1 or -4) and all the lenses until I dropped two lenses while changing them -- one from the top of a sailboat mast (bounce, splash) and one onto a castle's stone floor (crunch). Then with an OM-D and its zoom lenses but that was still too much too lug around, so now it's a "super-zoom" Panasonic. Not quite the picture quality but it is in my pocket, and I do not need to change (==drop) lenses.

Would like to find a digital camera with the OM-4's exposure ability but have given up :(

First trip with Olympus tg-5, waterproof, shock resistant, really impressed for a compact point and shoot.
I'm below water more than above!
I have used the macro and was very pleased, also.

Anything that fields a chunk of Leica glass, at the sharp end

    It really is, that good

Compacts would include Leica D-Lux 7, or the current Panasonic Lumix

Forgot to mention that. It was part of why I bought the Panasonic with a "vario-elmar".

First camera I owned was a '50s Zeiss -- East German but still lovely optics, so that is what I have looked for ever since (if I could afford it).

I carry my I Phone 8+ and my Cannon S120. Between the two I get great pictures. The S120 has more capability than I understand how to use.

You can get a cheap canon 5d body and a decent 35-200mm lens cheap and it does everything at a very affordable cost.

I still retain a full OM2 kit…running in parallel with an F2As kit... both motor driven

The brightness of the viewfinders, on the Olympus, and the marques sheer versatile compactness, was always light years ahead of the competition

Funny I do the same with Zeiss lenses. They are really that good. :D
Of course a few Leica lenses might be in the bag too.

Depends. If just myself shooting street, an M10 with 35cron. With family, a7ii with a 24-105 zoom. If packing light just a Fuji X100T. Heading to Mexico in a couple of weeks, will likely bring the a7ii and the fuji.

Might I offer an uneducated, perhaps unpopular opinion:

I am just an amateur, but my Nikon df has held really well during travel. Full frame and light. It was happily snapping away even at a recent rainy night at NYC. An additional plus is that most people think I'm using a film camera, so thieves don't really care.

For walking down the beach, with my Wife…I have a couple of pairs of 70’s Carl Zeiss (DDR) 10x50 Dekarems…

Legendary glass…that still takes your breath away, with its definition, & clarity

Canon lost me around the GX4. Sensor died after about 3 years. Turned into a $450 paperweight. Damn shame too, as it took great pictures. But as the GX_ prices kept climbing, there was less and less of a chance that I would risk my money again.

Mirrorless Picked one of these up for travelling. Good size and a one of only ones I could find with a view finder.
    5axis stabilisation is a bonus

For the past 5 years, I've taken my Sony A6000 everywhere with me and it has served me well with 3 lens - tele, wide and portrait. I've also started using my iPhone with 2 Moment lens, the superfish and the macro (for the watches).

Yes! I really love its size factor. I'm an amateur so I prioritize good mobility (don't have a studio). When I was buying my lenses I avoided anything that looked too big. You can get it even smaller with smaller lenses
    D3S_0444-1200.jpg
It's compatible with all vintage lenses made by Nikon too so lens shopping is quite fun, since vintage lenses are (relatively) inexpensive.
