Have been speaking with a friend who's interested in a watch I'm selling, but now that he's ready to go we have tariffs of course. Is anyone maybe flying over and could drop it in the mail on the other side?
Thanks!

Coming up is a relative term. I will be heading to Zürich and the mountains at the end of July. Coincidentally, last time I went to Zurich I sold a watch and delivered it to a member on this board. If you can’t solve the issue and I can help, let me know.

Not sure it’s a good idea to advertise what you are proposing to do on an open forum.

Just saying,

Aren't the tariff issues and concerns related to items coming in to the US? Obviously, no one is talking about doing anything improper.

If you are avoiding taxes or duties on importing said watch into the EU you are indeed doing something improper.

It’s not a tariff issue. It’s a VAT issue.

If the item was mailed from the U.S. to EU, then if tariffs applied in that country, they would be charged to the buyer by the customs broker or DHL/FedEx, etc.

However, if I bring that item to EU, then I, as the importer would be responsible for payment of customs when I came to the country and am supposed to collect and remit VAT from the buyer. Mailing something “in country” does not exempt it from VAT, unless some de-minimus exception applies.

I was hoping not to have to spell it out that explicitly.

The reciprocal tariffs are already in place, additional to VAT.

What reciprocal tarrifs? It’s just VAT isn’t it which has been in place for years and the amount charge on imports is the same as the amount charged on locally produced goods and services.

Türler forever.

Enjoy.
That pic is Beyer, Türler is no more. Now it's a Harry Winston boutique.

Was in Zurich last week, pricey as usual, even worse because of the terrible exchange rate. Every shop I visited was empty, the velvet ropes were there but not used. Same in Geneve. It's a bit early in the season but I was there the same time last year and the difference is stark. I looked at a watch at Meister, was offered 10% off the list price, that is not something the Swiss normally do unless you have a deep relationship with the dealer.

And? Türler was top.

Were you in Zurich in the 70s?

I'm going to Sophia in a few weeks, but can confirm you have to pay import duties on watches brought not for personal use.

I was in Zurich a lot in the 80's. Agree Turler was top drawer, but they aren't in existence anymore. Time moves on.

The only boutique with wide open doors where we saw customers was " Breitling ', their Pop-Up museum in Rennweg was closed for a private event... 😉
Passed Omega store three times, bodyguard but no customers, looks like SWATCH did some AquaScuba thing lots of advertising for that.
