Does anyone know of an old film in which the star trades an Omega watch for a small sailboat so that he might make an escape back to civilization? I saw this film when I was a young child in early '80s, and it was the first time I saw an Omega and understood what a valuable timepiece could be. This was my first love for Omega, but I have no idea what film it was, or which Omega it was.

I can provide the boat, but it needs to be one heck of an Omega for that... ;)

There’s plenty of Speedmasters that could buy a number of really great boats!

Actually I was looking for the name of the film, but now that you mention it I have a 19' Alumaweld with In/Out 140hp Mercruiser. What have you got? :)

The Mosquito Coast, with Harrison Ford. I tried to find a good photo, but this is the only one I could locate. Seamaster DeVille apparently.

Honestly, I'd rather trade a boat for an Omega.

Just looked a couple a clips and trailers. I couldn’t find the scene with the Omega from the movie, but am in the mood for a good ‘80s movie! Haha

I saw the movie three times, and read the book. I think the boat belonged to “Mr. Haddie” in the film. But I don’t recall the swap. I know it was only a movie, but can you trust the judgement of a guy who would land his plane in a taxiway?

I'll trade you the rest of the wheelbarrow for a speedmaster, depending on condition!

So that airport is about 10 minutes from me. He really messed up. Have you heard the ATC radio and looked at the airport on google maps? How he thought it was the runway is beyond me.

That looks like a gold-filled 166.003, not a De Ville. Lug and case shape are distinctly different imo.

I don't think Mosquito Coast is the film I remember. The quest continues... I am pretty sure it was black and white.. at least my memory of it is. And the boat traded for was a sailing dingy... a one or two man affair.

At least he didn't land on another golf course. Kind of hard to miss the 150' wide runway with no planes on it and instead try to drop in on a row of aircraft waiting to take off. BTW, the ATC comm from that is "almost" funny if he hadn't come within a whisker if killing a load of people.
Hopefully they yanked his airman's certificate and required some remedial training before they let him near an aircraft again.
I have flown into that airport multiple times, day, night, low vis, clear skies, never thought the taxiway was a runway.
