HEV aside, I do like and prefer the fact that it's an automatic movement, crystal and not as 'common' as the Speedmaster.

Not that every Joe Blow has a Speedy but those that do have Omegas normally for the Speedmaster.

I like both but SMP might be the go.

Will try both on at the AD in a couple of weeks and decide.

Unless the Planet Ocean wins.

Has anyone managed to fit a different bracelet on their Seamaster 300M?

I prefer the rubber band or a nato strap look on that watch but wouldn't mind a bracelet, as long as it's not the one that comes with the watch. That thing is UGLY.

There you go mate! I have not tested the bracelet, but its known to be super comfortable. The "tank tread" bracelet, sword hands, twisted lugs and helium escape valve gives the watch character. It looks like no other watch. Usualy the complainers wear a watch from that other brand, with that over copied, rather bland diver. But we dont listen to those guys!

I dont think "every joe blow have a Speedy" but they sure like to talk about it!😉

The Speedy is a super good looking, iconic watch, and if you got kids they usualy like to be timed doing different things and thats a good way to get them into watches. Its just not super-duper good looking like the Seamaster. Remember the Seamaster won WW2, the cold war and the war against spectre. How is that for iconic!

I remember with fondness winding and setting my Timex with my family at 8 o clock every morning to the radio beep, but the latest manual wind, inaccurat and plastic crystaled watch I had, just got tiresome.

Good luck with your choise.

I have the SMP 300m on the black rubber strap and in the two years that I’ve had it, I have rarely taken it off to wear any other watch. It’s a great all rounder that works in all situations… and even if it doesn’t, I don’t care 😁

My old man had an original speedie moonwatch so I wanted to have something different and the Seamaster is about as good as it gets - although I do like the PO Orange for some inexplicable reason 😀

Eh sounds like it'll be used a lot better to go with the seamaster, auto, tough and waterproof.

seamaster is tougher, but auto is out there on speedmaster as well. and i think more versatile is definitely the speedy!

I like the triple date, even got a 100m WR in some models. I cant really see what makes the Speedy more versatile. Seamaster must be the ultimate GADA watch.

I went for Speedy as the first one which frlt as a must go to for me. Then I wanted a Seamaster 300m too, so at that time looked at the blue dial (no waves) which grew on me. I couldn't decide and when I finally felt like going for it, Omega moved to the next gen Seamaster which is the current one. I must admit that for some reason i dont like it on my hand so i never pulled a triger on it. I am waiting to see the new green dial in person - maybe this will make me go for it. In the end I do have a Seamaster but it is the one from my profile pic (1948) , which I love and which was my wedding watch. Bottom line from me is the same as was mentionned earlier - you need to check out both on your wrist and prepare yourself for the end result that probably at some point you will have both of these watches 😀

I won't pretend to offer to make this decision for you. However, if you find my perspective helpful then great.

The current generation Seamaster 300m represents an extremely compelling value. Truly, I can't think of a similar watch in the price tier with as many great features. I have the white dial on my wish list. I think I appreciate the value proposition at least as much I appreciate any individual aspect of the watch. But I also think that as a whole it is pretty special.

The current generation Speedmaster Professional is technically superior while still maintaining a direct lineage to its predecessors. The new bracelet is fantastic. It has a lot more design nods to the early asymetric Professional models than ever before. It's a great and reliable modern descendant that is just undeniably safe.

My primary intent for purchasing watches is to wear them. I'm not bothered when they have reasonable signs of wear. In my experience, prices for used watches are almost always pretty significantly discounted. I've never considered purchasing either of these new. I have always wanted a Speedmaster and it was higher up in priority on my watch wish list, in that price range at least. It wasn't until somewhat recently that the prospect of owning one was even realistic. I came across what I considered an excellent deal on a 3861 Speedmaster in the members' trading forum here that I was able to mark a special occasion with. If you decide that option appeals to you, just keep your eyes on that forum while you continue to engage with this community.

I have an envelope that I put money into periodically with the intent of eventually spending on a current generation white dial Seamaster 300m. I plan to wear them both for different reasons.

If we were talking about just owning one or both of these watches for even less money, I pretty regularly see earlier Seamasters in the 2-3k range and with some effort it shouldn't be terribly difficult to snag one of the less desirable 1861 Speedmasters for 4k or less. Thinking in those terms, you could have BOTH for the price of a single brand new Speedmaster Professional. It all comes down to your budget, priorities, and what YOU want out of them.

I’d go Speedy, such a classic. Like above said, should be able to find a secondhand 1861 fairly easily and get a bit of a saving.

Exactly. Lots of fees on C24 and no one ever pays the fully-listed price.
