I thought I allready posted this here, but looks like I havn't. End of last year I got an Unicorn in the Enicar World: an Enicar Super Graph, customized by factory for the 1964 shooting competitions of the Olympic Games in Tokyo. This watch appeared first in 2019 on Instagram . Its as allways. When you think you have seen everything, something new shows up. With the red-black bezel the watch puzzled me a bit .Also the orange markers on the dial were interesting and different to other Super Graphs. Back then, thanks to a pic in an 1964 issue of Europa Star, I knew it was maybe a special watch for shooting events. But I had still no clue what these colors were about. Mid of 2020 I came into contact with one of the Swiss rifleman from the Swiss shooting team. His name is Hans Simonet and he still had his watch. He explained me what these markers are for. To understand what they do, we have to look into the rifle shooting rules. As rifle shooter with small calibre, you have 120min time, to complete your run, or 105min in an electronic firing range. In a large calibre competition you have 135min time, or 120min in and electronic firing range. This is exactly the time the segments on the bezel show, as do the marks on the hour counter sub. I tried to explain it a bit better on my enicar blog: https://enicar101.com/2020/12/18/enicar-super-graph-simonet/ Turns out, Hans was also the guy on the pic above in the Europa Star, which solved another riddle. Hans was a very helpful guy and in the end I was able to buy the watch from him. A real true grail for me! You may still waiting for the Speedmaster, do you? I just found a pic of Kon Ichikawa. Ichikawa was the director of the official film for the Olympic games in 1964. And what is visible on his wrist? A nice Speedy! Hard to tell which reference, but I think I see Alpha hands. The full 1964 Olympic Movie is available at Youtube. Unluckily the shooting competitions were not filmed For more information on this special Enicar have a look here and if you ever see a similar one and need a guidance have a look on the classification on enicar101.com Best Nico
I wonder what the shooting watches look like today and if they were designed specific for the event. Does anyone have seen one in the 2020 Tokyo games?
Very cool Enicar! Looking at his rifle, I'm always astounded at the longevity that the Martini action had in European shooting sports. In 1964 that design would have been 93 years old.
Wow. That's really interesting--I knew nothing about this. I have a Seiko 6217-7000 World Timer with the '64 Olympics logo on the back and I was under the impression that this (and 1-2 other models from Seiko) were the only watches with a '64 Olympics connection.
I had the luck to find a second one, that I currently restoring. 2 of 4 known Super Graph "Simonet" you see in this picture
