...until 2021. Does that mean that these will become even more desirable to collectors?

TBD but now that there's an "error caseback" Speedy, it's a definite possibility!

most watch prices will probably fall considering we're about to enter a worldwide recession or depression.

Or Omega will just make another ‘limited edition’ Tokyo 2021.
The flippers will rage about how wonderful it is and try and make a 100% profit.
The cycle will just repeat.

They are still going to call it the 2020 Olympics even if held in 2021 due to having all the marketing and goods made.
This has been announced already by the IOC

What's the error case-back Speedmaster?

Who knows, but it will be the first Olympics to be cancelled not due to a war....but yeah, wouldn't be surprised if Omega makes some kind of limited edition...

I am referring to the number “2020” on the caseback of the Tokyo Olympics watches, an Olympics that will now take place in 2021. Of course Omega couldn’t have known this when they manufactured the watches! But sometimes these little idiosyncrasies end up making a watch more collectable and therefore more valuable.

Only time will tell but I wouldn’t count on it getting a bump from this. As @STANDY pointed out they did the rebranding specifically so the merch doesn’t have to get redone. Since most items will say 2020 this prob won’t stand out. But what do I know, just guessing here. 😀

I didn't even realise the Olympic watch this year (next year) was a Speedmaster - they're usually Seamaster's the majority of the time I think.

The speedys are first and there is an AT and PO as well designed for the games

Yeah they actually did Seamasters, too. You can google Tokyo 2020 Seamaster and you’ll find an Aqua Terra and a Planet Ocean.

There is even a Seamaster LA Olympic 2028 tribute out there, and now you wouldn’t even know if that one will push through, especially in light of the current situations we are in.

They will climb in value. Who wouldn't want to keep a piece of the most embarrassing East Asian leadership as souvenir lmao. Poor Japanese vendors and contract staff. Hope they send their contract termination bills to Shinzo Abe.

The Olympics are postponed, they aren't changing them to the 2021 Olympics, they will still be called the 2020 Olympics...so nothing changes in that regard. Regardless if you are hoping to profit off a modern watch, you will find better odds at the craps table.

Actually you're much better off buying steel Rolexes at retail if you want to "profit off a modern watch". Even better odds than craps.
