Blue and red for me. Sadly I don’t think I’ll be going to japan any time soon and I have a feeling these will buck the normal Olympic watch trend and be very popular (therefore expensive on the secondary market).

Limited edition copies of previous limited editions? Pure laziness.

Yes, I agree.... But the other two are killer!

Laziness, near copies of previous LEs, derivative of prior models?

Come on.... Were you really expecting anything else?

That’s pretty much the secret sauce of Speedmaster success.

Let Omega change anything significant, and the howls will be heard around the world, much less this forum.

The Speedy Pro is a lazy execution by Omega all the way around. But still my favorite watch. I like all of these.

I wish they would have gotten with Nintendo, as Super Mario currently has the torch since the last olympics, and incorporated that somehow.

Obviously, the bezels indicate the Olympic Rings...

::facepalm1::

Obviously (to me only after you pointed it out!)

I love the fact that so many people (me included) thrash Omega for all the limited editions and colour variations and then they fυcking release 5 new Speedmasters celebrating that the Olympics is two years away. I mean what the fυck!

Sorry about the language.

I think they look ok too, but their designs also seem to be lifted from existing co-axial speedmasters

I first saw that picture with the 5 Speedmasters on IG and thought « this must be a bad joke, who did that photoshop? »

Then I’ve been browsing the @speedyjapan IG profile and realized it wasn’t a joke but really a sad truth... 👎

Blue = copy pasted Gemini IV LE
Panda = copy pasted Apollo XI 35th LE
Gold = heavily inspired by the Apollo XI 45th LE
Green and Red = heavily inspired by the co axial master chrono moonphase

I am really happy I have sold my Gemini and Apollo XI 35th already... 😒

Still there is something really interesting, the @speedyjapan IG profile.

Account created by the end of 2017, they have been reposting all kind of Speedmasters and linking them to Japan.

A couple of days ago they shared my pic of LCD Speedy and Alaska Prototypes that’s how I discovered it...

It seems that this account was sharing about the new LEs first and was also very active on commenting and answering to all the comments about the new LE which brings me to wonder if this account belongs to Omega? If yes, we might have another marketing strategy / product launch here. Something we haven’t seen yet but a very good marketing idea imo and here I’d say congratulations Omega 👍

Are we certain this is an official omega account? Looks like photo shopped pics of existing watches and the ig account is tagged "we hope the speedy Japan" limited edition will be released??

Is this all a catfish????

So we have now four blue white panda dials made by omega in the last 40+ years. This Olympic Blue Le, the Gemini IV, a Ref. of the Speedmaster Reduced and the Seamaster 145.029.
I‘m totally fine with this. It‘s still very unique.

Could they put more effort into it to differentiate it in design from the Gemini? Sure. But for me it‘s different enough.

I personally appreciate it that the Stepdial is making a comeback on more Speedmasters.
Although I‘m not sure if it looks that good with what appears to be „stepped“ metal markers. The execution on the stepped luminous markers on the ST2 was more fitting.

I‘d love to get my hands on a Blue/White Panda Speedmaster though and not pay Gemini prices for it.

Cheers,

Max

The new collection is featured on the Japanese website of Omega :

Regarding the account, I don’t know 100% but it looks interesting.

I think the essentially carbon-copy aspect of the blue and white ones to the Gemini IV and Apollo XI 35th / Mitsukoshi is pretty terrible IMO. Maybe sapphire crystals will keep them separate but I really can't see why a buyer would want to spend $10k on a Gemini IV or an Apollo XI 35th if he can spend about half that once these hit the market and depreciate. As for the black one, the Apollo XV 35th hasn't really found much of a market yet and I think this will suppress it further.

I know it's Japan-only but I'm starting to worry about the constant flow of LE Speedmasters, and the fact that 3/5 of these are blatant retreads of past releases doesn't help that in my view

A few comments below:

They look great, but honestly I would have thought that they might have given ST2/Ultraman at least some breathing space.

I think we might also deduct that they will not be using any of these colour combos for next year's Apollo 11 50th LE...or perhaps they have now crossed a taboo red line where it really is anything goes...and they might do a copy of one of these with an Apollo 11 mission patch on the back🙄

After Ultraman, I agree that a Mario / Nitendo LE is perfectly within reach, in fact any collaboration that sells is now a target. Good taste, relevancy to the Speedmaster heritage has become irrelevant. The "Trilogy" and ST#1 were "dummies" to the collector community.

Omega certainly want to milk the stepped dial as much as possible now they've got that production process in place for the Speedy Pro LEs, so I would be willing to bet more money now that the upcoming Apollo 11 LE will also have a stepped dial.

As Omega now have reached the "no shame" level, I think we can also assume this year's Apollo 8 LE Ceramic is also going to be copied into multiple colour schemes.

Biggest take away for me: Speedy LE's used to be the last bastion of modern Omega value retention. That last bastion seems to have been well and truly exploded to smithereens. Speedy LE's are going to be issued like G-shock editions from now on.😁
