Yup- my dad was my asshole too- loved him dearly, wanted to kill him sometimes.

I have one of his watches, my brother has the other two (he would get a new one about every 15 years). They aren’t particularly valuable but I wouldn’t sell them for anything.

You can YouTube changing out a watch strap- it’s pretty easy but takes a steady hand and the correct tool (they aren’t expensive and some vendors include them for free when you buy a strap). If the spring bars are really gunky they could be tough to get out, but a watchmaker could get it off in a matter of minutes.
If you are gonna keep it in the family, it is worth getting it serviced, just for reliability. The oils inside are dried out and it’s wearing metal on metal in some places so minimize the wrist time until it’s get freshly lubed. Parts are limited to Swatchgroup authorized service providers, but most good watchmakers (not the guy in the mall or the local Zales) can handle the service and usually can source parts for these older movements if needed.
Lots of strap choices out there and look for “short sizes”. Let your sister pick the color and style she wants. Lug width is measured in MM and is most likely 18mm, may be 19mm but you can measure it and know for sure.
Holbens is a good place to start for straps with some nice brands at fair prices.

Thank you so much! I have enjoyed the forum immensely. The "Morons who open the cases" thread had me laughing out loud.. and the re dial thread was hilarious.. I don't know how anyone would even for a second think those were authentic. Looked on ebay for grins and already my knowledge of Omegas had me cringing. Poor unsuspecting buyers.. Wish there was an eBay button to say.. this is not only a fake, but a really horrendous fake. Like. Really.

Lots of other sub-threads here too, collectively we cover pretty much every hobby and pastime you could imagine…some you may not have imagined 😗

Hope you stick around and enjoy the company. Who knows…you may even find a watch you want to wear hanging out here for a while. ::stirthepot::

You have a great watch. I think to made the right choice keeping it. While it might wear a little on the small size you might wind up really liking it after a bit.

If you're looking for a watchmaker in Texas o suggest Chris Abell. I've had good luck with him.
