Hello,
A friend of mine works in China and often returns to Europe. Is it easier to find an original Rolex, for example the new GMT or Daytona in that country?

I visit China once a year normally. - the watch boutiques there are really plush, and everything seems astronomically expensive cf USA and Europe

So if you are asking if buying a watch in China is less expensive that EU, i seriously doubt it

I have never seen anyone buying watches in China - apart from fakes, that is

The brands are there just for show

However, i do see hundreds of Chinese with suitcases in the malls in the UK and USA on mega spending sprees

I think this tells a story

Having spent lots of time in China over the past 5 years, I have learned a few things...
One thing is that you will never get robbed in China, one of the most safe countries in the world!
Another is that they would trick you out of every cent you have, but rob you they would not...

They also have very high import tax on luxury products, for example a Rimowa suitcase cost in average 25-30% more in China compared to Europe. This also apply for watches, cars, jewlery, clothes, bags and so on...
Hence you will find lots of Chinese people buying luxury items in other parts of the world and bringing them back to China to sell them on there. They will buy the products tax free and be able to make a serious profit on them back at home.

If a product is not manufactured in China, they will punish said product with higher import tax... One of many reasons why you see lots of factories being built up in China by companies from all over Europe and the rest of the world.

In short, of course you can find a good deal, but there is a very big risk that you might not get exactly what you pay for...

Good luck and happy hunting//
